I have extensive experience working with young people with neurodivergences, disabilities, and/or anxiety disorder, including diagnoses of autism, ADHD, OCD, and intellectual and developmental disabilities.
I specialize in strength-based psychodynamic therapy with children and teenagers. Many young people struggle with feeling big enough to hold all their feelings, values, relationships, and dreams. My approach focuses on helping children to recognize and draw from their own well of inner strength while also honoring their needs—and figuring out what to do next. As a therapist, I am warm, creative, and collaborative, using the therapy room as a safe practice space that ultimately encourages outside confidence and connection.

Are you someone who has recently discovered you're on the Autism Spectrum later in life? Perhaps you've always felt a bit different but didn't have a name for it until now? You're not alone, & this journey of self-discovery can be both enlightening and challenging. I embrace a neurodiversity-affirming approach, recognizing & celebrating the diverse ways our brains work. If you’re a neurotypical parent struggling to accept your child’s diagnosis, stressed by IEP meetings, coping w/ seeing your child treated unfairly, or looking for insight into your child’s sensory challenges, I’m here for you too. (Note: I do NOT work with minors.)

This journey focuses on enhancing your strengths—creativity, empathy, authenticity—& embracing your ADHD or Autism, your neurodivergence, as a vibrant, unique lens to thrive on your own terms.
Living as an ADHD or Autistic adult can be frustrating and overwhelming. You might feel out of step with the world or misunderstood. Why don’t people just say what they mean? Why can’t people respect your process just because it’s different? Why can’t you feel more at peace with your body, mind, and senses? Our minds are colorful and complex, yet we struggle in a world not tailored to our unique patterns. Adapting and masking our true selves to fit in can be exhausting. The constant need to adapt, the feeling of being misunderstood, and the search for a space where you can be your true self is a path you need not walk alone.

I specialize in strength-based psychodynamic therapy. Many of us struggle with balancing all our feelings, obligations, values, and dreams; we feel trapped, or we shut down the parts of ourselves that don’t fit. And yet, our lives are not only our experiences and identities, but the meanings we make of them. Together, we can unfold the rich stories of your life to make room for your whole self, building on your strengths while honoring your needs—and creating new possibilities for the road ahead.

I am an LMSW providing both individual and family therapy. I work primarily with preschool-aged and school aged children, teens, and families. I utilize play and art in my sessions, but I also help my clients to develop and practice new skills where appropriate. I enjoy helping families to strengthen relationships, and I practice from an attachment perspective. Play is a child's natural way of communicating, which makes it a perfect fit for many children in therapy! I often work with older children, teens, and adults as well, and tailor my therapeutic approach to the needs of each person and family I work with.

Feeling uncertain, frustrated, or exhausted? Are these emotions starting to feel overwhelming? In times of heightened uncertainty, resilience becomes paramount, often stemming from self-awareness and self-acceptance. Through therapy, we embark on a journey to cultivate empathy, enhance self-expression, and foster compassion within ourselves. Additionally, we learn to establish and honor our boundaries while nurturing the relationships that provide us with support. I strongly believe that therapy should be engaging and dynamic, creating a space where growth and transformation can flourish.

Autism Therapists

What is the most effective treatment for autism?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has come to be considered the standard treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder, and research has confirmed its effectiveness for many children. Therapists trained in ABA techniques work with children (and their parents) on developing social skills, communication and learning abilities, and everyday habits of hygiene and grooming. The clinician will tailor their program to the child’s particular need but the overarching goal will be to help them advance as far as possible toward independence based on their level of symptoms and decrease the need for additional special services. Families should seek a mental health professional specifically trained in ABA, and holding special certification in the technique, who has extensive experience not only with the approach but in using it with children with the same level of symptoms as the child who needs care.

How does ABA work?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) sessions, which typically focus on positive reinforcement, can be intensive, lasting two or more hours several times a week, and continuing for two years or more. Therapists can also be expected to ask parents to take an active role in reinforcing lessons. Research has found that the technique can lead to major improvements that decrease the need for additional special services.

How does treatment for autism work?

Therapy sessions based on Applied Behavior Analysis will likely be frequent, intensive, and highly structured. After a thorough assessment, a therapist will help a child understand and develop skills in a range of areas, including communication, motor skills, social skills, self-care, play, and academic skills, as well as routines of daily living like hygiene. Typically, the therapist will help a child break down the components of a behavior—often referred to as the antecedent (what prompts an action), the behavior, and the consequence(what immediately follows)—and then reward the child at every step, while also asking parents to reinforce the lessons, and the rewards, throughout the day. This core therapy may be supplemented by occupational or speech therapy, and antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticonvulsants may be prescribed to address specific severe symptoms.

How long does therapy for autism take?

Some people with autism spectrum disorder may be engaged in some level of therapy for many years, but research shows that treatment will be most effective if it is begun early and delivered intensively. When therapy begins by age 3, children tend to be better able to grasp and adopt the skills needed to manage everyday life, including attending school and establishing social relationships. This type of early-intervention treatment regimen is highly structured, typically involving 20 to 40 hours of one-on-one therapy per week, along with additional hours of engagement managed by parents, for a period of two years or more, although the duration of treatment is dependent on the child’s level of symptoms and pace of progress.
