I am a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in working with people who are coping with trauma, grief, and the impact of these experiences on relationships. I think therapy has the potential to unlock a person's natural tendency toward growth and resilience, so I take a strengths-based perspective in my work. My professional background includes training in a variety of settings such as hospitals and community health centers, where I have worked with both individuals and couples.

Are you an overachiever feeling “not good enough” at work or in your relationships? Do you say yes to others even when you really want to say no? Perhaps on the outside, no one even notices that you’re hurting. Are you experiencing loss and feel challenged by people’s insistence that they “know how you feel” and advice to “stay strong” and “look on the bright side”? Grief is agonizing, surprising, and often lonely. Are you LGB, queer, trans/NB/GNC and looking for a therapist who "gets it"? Do you have a child or teen who recently came out as gay, lesbian, bi, queer or trans? You're not alone, and I’m so glad that you found my page!

Are you struggling with relationship issues, loss of a loved one, or challenges with family members? Are you or your loved ones struggling with addiction? Together, we can explore your current behaviors and beliefs and begin to unpack how your experiences from the past may be impeding your ability to live peacefully and purposefully in the present. I will help you relieve your distress, strengthen your inner resources and sense of self, and develop more authentic ways of communicating in order to enrich the relationships in your life (including the one with yourself).

I have a special interest in supporting people with anxiety and/or low mood; relational issues/changes; grief and loss; spirituality; and body image issues.
When it comes to finding the right therapist for you, there’s no one-size-fits-all! It is my goal to see the full you and to be curious about what you uniquely need as the dynamic human that you are. I honor your personal values, past experiences and place in the world. Above all, I prioritize a feeling of relational safety, and I don’t subscribe to the idea that therapy needs to be uncomfortable or overwhelming; I care about your limits and boundaries and I trust your intuition. I also bring myself into the room with humor and compassion, and you’ll be able to feel my warmth and presence in a reliable and kind way.

Your depression or anxiety can be a result of a separation, loss of a loved one, a career, physical illness, or a very charged parent-child situation which you are experiencing.
I put you at ease, get to the heart of the matter and help you put things in perspective. If you are grieving I approach your problems with empathy and professional understanding. Problems in the workplace are invitable when you consider how much time many of us spend there. It's important that you recognize persistent patterns of conflict, it is the key to resolution.

I’m also the author of How to Survive the Loss of a Parent and an experienced grief counselor.
Let’s work together to create the life you want. From starting a new job to having a baby to dealing with a divorce—our lives are constantly in flux. Transitions evoke strong emotions and raise big questions. How do I have to change things to make this work? What will have meaning in my life? Who will be there for me? What happens now?

These tend to help clients explore unconscious patterns and enactments while offering practical tools for immediate relief from issues such as anger, grief, depression, and anxiety.
Every person is unique, each with their own narratives and perspectives. I subscribe to the belief that a new therapy is constructed for each person I work with. From the outset of treatment on through a process of self-discovery— challenging circumstances, past traumas, and negative belief structures lay the groundwork for seeds of strength and growth. All individuals possess the capacity to change their lives and I will work with you to process adversity and conflict into resilience and peace.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
