She/he has an appreciation for the transpersonal aspects of life, a curiosity for learning about subconscious processes, and an attitude towards health that is grounded in mindfulness. Besides Holistic, my approach to the therapeutic relationship is one of sponsorship, collaboration and respect for each person's healing journey and creed. My purpose is to encourage the spiritual and psychological inner work that is called for to attain wellness, and to offer resources as they may be needed.

I'm a trans, queer, Mexican-American therapist who works from an attuned, responsive, and relationship oriented approach. As all of us have a tendency to get lost in a narrative or storyline, I invite clients to slow down with me and get intimate with their direct experience—the raging emotions in the body, the coming and going of thoughts, the feeling of shaky vulnerability, the rage, the loneliness—honoring it all and creating a safe holding space for these lost emotions, perhaps for the first time ever. In addition to psychotherapy, I offer end-of-life support, and coaching.

My practice is emotion-focused and experiential type of psychotherapy. I also incorporate mindfulness meditation. It may help particularly with anxious and/or depressed people. I will be happy to work with those who do NOT feel the need of therapy per se, but feel like they are at an important time in their life. I welcome those who want to change themselves or their life even though they may feel somewhat happy where they are now. I truly feel gratitude toward the courage people take to start something NEW.

My approach to therapy is relational psychoanalytic and founded on the premise that healing occurs within the context of a safe and consistent relationship that allows for the exploration and expression of your true self. The therapeutic process offers the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the repetitive thoughts, feelings, and patterns that prevent you from living a healthier and more fulfilled life. My hope is to help facilitate the experience of creative self-discovery, to help you be and become more fully alive, and more fully yourself.

Are you looking to slow things down inside when your world seems never to stop? In order to shift anything, one must reach, with a gentle touch, the parts of ourselves that are able to transform. I passionately hold that we could all use a way to slow down our rapidly evolving lives—a way to hold space for what drives us forward, or slows us down in ways we’d like to speed up. Therapy is a space to peel back layers to help you move toward being fully expressed, in steady, easy participation with your life—even with its inevitable ups and downs and the in-between spaces.

Joy of life is always accompanied by pain, and there are times that you feel beaten and defeated. Psychological symptoms can surface and compromise your happiness and functioning during these struggles. Therapy can help you to stay on the right track or find the right directions to minimize unnecessary sufferings.

In this uniquely disorienting time, many of us are anxious, depressed, and full of dread and confusion. In an effort to escape these uncomfortable feelings, it's easy to numb out and focus our attention from the neck up. But by becoming friendly with our physical realities and bodily-felt experiences, we can cultivate greater trust in ourselves, expand our choices for how to be in the world, and experience greater integration and wellbeing.

I practice creating a therapeutic space where we can both embrace the present moment and embark on a journey of self-discovery. I believe that therapy is a long-term process that unfolds over time, leading to ever-expanding self-awareness and fulfillment. We are building this space together, and I use humanistic and psychodynamic approaches to help guide that process (Tweed jacket sold separately).

Transpersonal Therapists

How does transpersonal therapy work?

Transpersonal therapy focuses on a patient’s spirituality and meaning in life. Transpersonal therapists might borrow from Eastern traditions as well as Western psychology. They may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork to produce altered states of consciousness. The therapist helps the patient to access their consciousness and spirituality to work through difficult mental states.

How long does transpersonal therapy last?

Because the goal is to understand a person as a whole, including their spirituality, treatment can range from months to a year or beyond. While patients learn the philosophy behind transpersonal therapy during treatment, they can also practice its principles throughout life after therapy sessions have ended.

Is transpersonal therapy effective?

Patients have found success with transpersonal therapy; this method is useful in improving anxiety, depression, self-esteem, identity, fears, relationship problems, and other concerns. Improvements in problem areas can continue even after transpersonal therapy ends, as individuals can utilize the tools they’ve learned during treatment sessions.

What are the limitations of transpersonal therapy?

There is some research on the effectiveness of transpersonal therapy, but empirical support for this therapy approach is sparse. It does not have the robust evidence base of other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy.
