My specialties and areas of interest include anxiety, depression, mood disorders, relationships, PTSD and behavioral changes.
Deciding to come to therapy can be a difficult decision; one that takes courage and often comes with some anxiety and ambiguity about what the process will entail. I consider empathy, sympathy, and honesty are the key elements to a nurturing and successful therapeutic relationship. I’ve spent the last 4 years training and working with clients at institutions such as New York Presbyterian, New York University and Cornell Medical College. *** Hablo Espanol*****

I have extensive experience working with individuals struggling with the impact of complex trauma, relational issues, and shame.
Welcome! I know it can be hard to reach out for therapy when you don't know what to expect. Here's what I can tell you: I am not the silent and judgemental therapist portrayed on TV shows - just a fellow human being, genuinely interested, and ready to take on the journey of self-exploration with you. I am a firm believer that everyone makes sense if you take the time to understand the context of their experiences. Together we will make those connections, through a collaborative process of compassionate curiosity. No matter how lost, disconnected, depressed, or anxious you may feel - you make sense.

Are you struggling to find fulfillment in some areas of your life? Are you worrying about the future? That you'll never be able to own a home? Reach financial stability? Have close relationships with family and friends? A romantic partner? Perhaps your work is leaving you with a feeling of purposelessness. You're a bright person with many goals, but you're unsure how to tackle them. Therapy can be a place to process the emotions surrounding these, process past trauma, reframe how you see yourself and reevaluate how you can take charge of your role in the things that happen around you. Things don't have to be the way they are now.

M) in Counseling Psychology from Columbia University and further analytical training from The Freudian Society of New York Psychoanalytical Institute, I honed essential skills in trauma therapies during my 14 year tenure at the Rape Crisis Center at St.
"Our work-together can open doors". With my empathy, wisdom and knowledge, I can aspire and inspire change in you who are eagerly seeking and waiting. As a Psychotherapist, I am, first of all, an ally who provide support and a safe space to be. Then we go on a journey together: from an unawareness of the self, from superficial goals and aims towards an understanding of your individuality and to a state of centeredness-unified, integrated self.

From working in an outpatient mental health and substance abuse clinic to working in the prison system, I have gained a great understanding of the role that trauma and abuse play in an individuals life, specifically surrounding issues of abandonment, trust, guilt and shame, family dynamics and parenting.
Every human has the answers that they seek deep within themselves. My job is simply to give you a safe space to help you navigate and uncover the solutions to problems or answers to questions that you subconsciously already have the answers to. After all, nobody knows you better than you! Together we will process the areas that you need support in as well identify strengths and appropriate coping skills to build up your ability to deal with life on life’s terms instead of resorting to old, negative coping skills that no longer serve a purpose in your life.

My experience ranges from psychotherapy with adults, teens, and couples to counseling trauma survivors with acute PTSD.
I have 25 years experience working productively with people of diverse backgrounds, ages, and sexual orientations. Our job together is to identify dysfunctional patterns that contribute to—even perpetuate—your difficulties. The main focus of therapy is to remove inner and outer obstacles that prevent you from reaching your goals and having better relationships. Please note, after years of counseling and assessment in offices, I‘ve recently moved into a different space: video. Active listening in a safe, private setting is foundational to this work. I’ve learned that the catalytic elements of good therapy can thrive via video too.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
