I'm the interpersonal dynamics + relationships + parenting specialist.
We all face challenges that keep us from feeling positively connected to ourselves, others, and the world around us. Whether we are partners, parents, colleagues, clients, employers, or entrepreneurs, how do we find an approach to living that allows us to acquire and sustain a sense of mastery and self esteem? Together, we can ask this question, and explore approaches to living that resonate with you.

Psychodynamic techniques can change more deeply rooted difficulties with self image and interpersonal relationships.
In my practice I try to customize the therapy to the needs of each individual patient--whether the person is looking for help with a short-term, acute crisis; a longer-term but more focused problem, such as depression or anxiety; or more deeply entrenched difficulties with identity, relationships, or general sense of direction and meaning in life. Regardless of the treatment approach used, however, all effective therapy is built on a foundation of trust, compassion and empathy. I therefore work to build a collaborative relationship with my patients, so we can work together to achieve agreed-upon goals.

I work from a humanistic, egalitarian and interpersonal perspective that focus on your relational experiences, and how they connect to your problems and symptoms in the present.
Clients come to me with concerns, including anxiety, depression, family conflict, and struggles with intimacy. They feel stuck, angry with those around them, or caught in destructive patterns of behavior, yet they cannot seem to understand why. The relationship we build during treatment is a powerful tool to address these patterns that you feel unable to escape. Psychotherapy provides you space to safely explore these issues and work towards changing the patterns. I help my clients develop an appreciation for their life and work. Together we will explore the uncomfortable feelings and behaviors that prevent inner fulfillment, pursuit of goals, and overall life satisfaction.

My work draws from psychodynamic psychotherapy, and an eclectic mix of traditions, including mindfulness, somatic experiencing, interpersonal and relational.
I treat individuals, couples, and families, spanning from childhood through adulthood. Therapy can be useful when we are experiencing life as painful, confusing or challenging, no matter the reason. Many live with feelings of sadness, loss, disorientation, isolation and diminished self-worth. Exploring those feelings and troubling symptoms in a safe environment with a caring, experienced professional, can serve to motivate us to identify patterns that stand in our way, be curious about and understand ourselves, all of which can lead to making meaningful and needed changes.

With a supportive, interpersonal approach, my goal is to guide you, but not direct you to recognize and then rise above the obstacles that prevent you from thriving in all aspects your life--in work, family & romantic relationships, creativity, and in your own self-development. Since 1996 I have had the opportunity to work with individuals and couples who have struggled with a wide variety of emotional issues. I have found that lasting change comes from discovering the underlying causes of problems, and working together to resolve and reduce your symptoms, while helping you grow towards becoming your most authentic self.

Are you struggling to find fulfillment in some areas of your life? Are you worrying about the future? That you'll never be able to own a home? Reach financial stability? Have close relationships with family and friends? A romantic partner? Perhaps your work is leaving you with a feeling of purposelessness. You're a bright person with many goals, but you're unsure how to tackle them. Therapy can be a place to process the emotions surrounding these, process past trauma, reframe how you see yourself and reevaluate how you can take charge of your role in the things that happen around you. Things don't have to be the way they are now.

Although I specialise in sex and porn addiction treatment, my work encompasses more than just helping my clients stop their self-destructive behaviours. Of course, sexual sobriety is crucial for therapeutic progress, but I have found that healing the childhood neglect and abuse that--without exception--underlie the development of a sexual addiction is also essential if the individual is to have the truly transformative recovery he or she deserves. I aspire to offer patience, empathy, expertise, and loving, respectful care to my clients, which I hope they experience from me in our work together.

Life is overwhelming. There's so much that we are navigating and have pressure to get everything right. The last thing we want to struggle with is the very thing that helps us endure the challenges of life: relationships, sex, & our bodies. Do you find yourself trying to keep everything up and watching your relationships falling by the wayside? Sex & Relationships are important. We have so many ideas about it stemming from media, friends, family, religion and our own sexual history, which can be very confusing and isolating. Sex therapy helps make sense of what you know about sex, sexuality, & relationships

Interpersonal Therapists

Is interpersonal therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found interpersonal therapy to be effective for life transitions including retirement, divorce, and job loss. Also, some studies have found it to be just as useful as medication and other therapy approaches. The benefits of interpersonal therapy can last long after treatment has been completed; the individual can use the tenets of this therapy throughout their life.

How long does interpersonal therapy take?

Interpersonal psychotherapy is normally time-limited and focuses on specific problems in the client’s everyday relationships. Treatment can be either one-on-one or take place in a group setting; it tends to last 12 to 16 weeks, depending on the individual client’s needs. If a new interpersonal problem arises in the future, the client may require additional therapy to address it specifically. The timeline and session schedule may vary depending on the client’s challenges as well as their progress. Treatment may conclude with wrap-up sessions to review the client’s accomplishments.

Is interpersonal therapy effective?

Research shows that interpersonal therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of conditions such as depression or anxiety. The approach may also offer a range of benefits that are hard to measure but valuable—including healthier relationships and improved feelings of self-worth. The therapist will give the client practical solutions that can be put into practice. The brief duration of this therapy also means that clients can see changes in their relationships fairly quickly.

What are the limitations of interpersonal therapy?

Interpersonal therapy may not effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as psychosis, chronic illness, or alcohol relapse. Because it is short-term in nature, it may not be the best approach for conditions that need to be tracked, though maintenance sessions are a viable approach under these circumstances.

Can interpersonal psychotherapy be done online?

Yes, interpersonal psychotherapy can be conducted effectively either in-person or online. A therapist with expertise in IPT will be able to adjust their techniques, such as role-playing, to better suit the online environment. Offering online IPT can make it more accessible for clients who have transportation difficulties; it also provides the ideal opportunity to explore challenges unique to digital relationships.
