I bet you've probably spent a good deal of time sifting through the sea of clinicians listed on this website, and let me tell you, it is a beast. Finding a good therapist is like dating. Who looks smart? Who seems warm and compassionate? Who's attractive? Nobody is perfect, but you don't want to settle either. Perhaps they have great insight and are very pedigreed, but don't seem particularly warm or approachable. Or vice versa. What to do? Shop around until you find a proper match. You are unique. Not every therapist may suit you.

Dr. Baten incorporates CBT and holistic health in her practice. She helps individuals, children, families and couples develop new strategies to change old patterns. She stimulates emotional growth by teaching people to replace their self-defeating thoughts, feelings and actions with new and more effective ones. Patients are taught to identify the dysfunctional beliefs that lead to negative consequences in their mood and behavior as well as to replace poor food and lifestyle choices. She encourages individuals to be responsible for their own emotions, empowering them to change and overcome unhealthy behaviors that interfere with their ability to enjoy life.

My goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where you can openly express your thoughts and feelings. Together, we can work to explore troubling thoughts and emotions, and begin to identify self-limiting beliefs. As you gain new insights and a greater understanding of yourself, you can start to understand the motivations behind your patterns of thinking and behavior. Self discovery and self awareness can be empowering and liberating, paving the way to making more meaningful, fulfiilling choices in your life.

Increasing your self-awareness through therapy in order to make conscious change in your life offers exciting and challenging opportunities to discover your whole self. By attending to what you feel, think and sense in the moment of the therapy session, you will begin to notice how the experiences we create together live outside of the session in your everyday life. The awareness you build in our sessions provides a stable ground from which you can make choices in life that will free you from the patterns of behavior that have limited you for so long.

Anxiety, worry and self-doubt are perhaps the most common and widespread challenges faced by children today. From every area of their lives, children face daunting pressures and demands. For those already anxious or vulnerable, these pressures maybe be overwhelming. Already primed for frustration or failure, such children may find navigating key developmental transitions - from childhood to grade school, for example, or from pre-adolescence to the teen years - difficult if not impossible. Parents may have tried other interventions or therapies; but often with little or no success. What's a concerned parent to do?

Psychotherapy is a practice of deep listening and understanding. I help people develop insight into their troubles and look into habitual patterns that may create obstacles to their life goals. Together, we identify these patterns, explore feelings, and put effective coping skills into practice. When working with children, my approach invites the family in. Parent coaching, which involves a neurobiological understanding, and psychodynamic insight are integral. Through play therapy I help children discover ways to communicate their experience. The purpose is to establish a connection that encourages growth and the sense that children have a positive impact in their world.

Living with anxiety sucks! Overthinking, trouble sleeping, worrying nonstop, feeling like your heart is beating out of your chest. There always seems to be something to worry about. You wish you had control of it, but it feels so unmanageable. It effects evert facet of your life at work, home, school and social life. You've tried everything and nothing has worked, and wonder if it will ever go away. All you want is peace and stability, able to live your life like it used to be before problematic anxiety. Finally in control of it!

Welcome! I work primarily with adults who struggle with trauma and its consequent impact and symptoms within the self and interpersonally. I work collaboratively with clients to identify the barriers that keep them stuck and unable to meet their full potential and aliveness. I introduce mindfulness skills, breath work, body awareness, resourcing and bilateral stimulation, including EMDR, and Somatic Experiencing, depending on an individual's unique needs. I reference a variety of theories, ranging from psychoanalytic and psychodynamic to cognitively and behaviorally based. I also apply neuroscience and trauma theory.

My goal is to help you reconnect with your heart and not be afraid of your feelings. Many of us have developed ways of denying, repressing, or avoiding painful feelings, rather than learning to embrace them. In a trusting relationship such as therapy, one can learn to experience feelings more without so much fear, leading to deeper self and other relationships.

The decision to enter therapy represents an important investment in improving the quality of your life. I believe that therapy is a dynamic, creative process that centers on the questions you would like to explore and the changes you wish to make within yourself. In the context of a safe and nonjudgmental space, we will explore patterns in your life and how your past experiences have contributed to your current concerns. Together, we will replace problematic coping strategies with effective ones; discover new perspectives on recurring issues; and come to a deeper understanding of yourself and others.

I began my career working with children ages 7-16 in Behavioral Modification Therapy. After two years, I began working with teenage boys coming out of Foster Care. My work included Behavioral Modification with an added component of both group and individual therapy. I took on the additional responsibility of training staff in Behavioral Modification, Boundaries Adherence and Self Awareness techniques. I have also supervised and coached individuals on how to have difficult conversations, counsel others, parenting skills and substance abuse. Additionally, I have experience assisting troubled families in conflict work through their challenges.
