I understand it is not easy to come to therapy but talking to family and friends is entirely different then talk "therapy". This is especially true if you are depressed, anxious, grieved, struggling in your marriage or have trauma. Just take that first step and make the phone call and I will guide you through the rest. My clients are so surprised to find out what a relief it is to come to therapy and wonder why they waited so long. My seasoned listening skills and thought provoking questions will help you know yourself better and reach your goals. My style is light and warm yet focused on results. Growth is my specialty!

Communication, naming your desires, and building healthy relationships are not topics we're taught yet are what you'll hear repeated as the exact thing needed to live a life you want. Finding a therapist you can connect with, someone you trust to support you in this learning, can be a challenging task. As a trained sex therapist, I work to help you listen to your body, understand what is holding you back, and provide active feedback on how you can gain confidence.

Hello and welcome! I know how difficult it can be to navigate life’s challenges. I also know it may be even more difficult to seek help, but I’m so glad you’re here. Through our time together, we’ll explore where you are now and the goals you have for yourself, create a plan that will help you to move forward, and then work through it all together. I believe in creating an environment where individuals are empowered to explore their thoughts and feelings openly, with the goal of developing practical skills for managing challenges and building resilience.

Do you feel out of sorts, weighed down, stressed by everyday life or by some specific issues that you don't seem to be able to resolve? I can help you identify what is getting in your way and preventing you from fulfilling your aspirations and reaching your goals. I'll help you focus on the alterations needed so your life becomes happy, serene and exciting. It is often how we think that prevents us from finding solutions. Talking things out with an empathic other helps, and friends do. But they often project themselves into your situation and give you advice from THEIR perspective . A good therapist sees things through YOUR eyes.

Life is filled with many opportunities as well as challenges. My goal is to help children and adolescents recognize and seize those opportunities and overcome any challenges and obstacles that get in their way. By helping them create a positive mindset, build effective coping strategies, and expand their repertoire of problem-solving skills, they can live a healthy, satisfying, and successful social and academic life. The earlier these skills are cultivated within the child or adolescent, the greater the opportunities to practice and utilize them to their benefit.

Culturally Sensitive Therapists

How does culturally sensitive therapy work?

A culturally sensitive therapist will tailor their approach to therapy based on the individual client’s background. This may include changing their style of interaction (asking open-ended questions vs. being the “expert” voice), their affect (seeming warm or “neutral”), how much personal information they disclose about themselves, and more. It’s also important for a culturally sensitive therapist to acknowledge larger societal forces that may impact their client due to the client’s background.

How effective is culturally sensitive therapy?

Some professionals have expressed concern about highlighting cultural differences in therapy, suggesting that it might promote stereotypes and harm the therapeutic bond; however, many experts agree that cultural sensitivity tends to strengthen the connection between therapist and client and help clients feel heard and understood. A culturally sensitive approach to therapy can be especially helpful for those not in the cultural majority, especially when combined with proven therapies like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

What are the limitations of a culturally sensitive approach to therapy?

While being culturally sensitive is generally a valuable skill to have, a therapist cannot treat every client from a similar background the same way. Each client is an individual with their own values, personal preferences, and life experiences that will need to be explored during therapy. In addition, it’s rare for a therapist and client to have identical backgrounds, so there may be some cross-cultural differences to navigate during therapy, but a culturally sensitive therapist can do so with empathy and respect.

Can culturally sensitive therapy be done online?

Yes, online therapy using a culturally sensitive approach can be beneficial. Therapy can sometimes be difficult to access for clients from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic standing. The array of mental health support available through the internet makes it possible for clients to find a good therapist match regardless of where they live.
