I have extensive experience treating individuals who have experienced a wide variety of concerns, such as trauma, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, grief, domestic violence, low self-esteem, relationship issues, self-harm, suicidal ideation, parenting issues, PTSD, substance abuse, anger management, and criminal justice issues.

I am a Licensed Clinical Worker (LCSW) with over 25 years of experience working with children, teens, adults, couples & families. During my career, I have worked with individuals of varied cultural backgrounds, life situations and in settings such as schools (K-8th), outpatient mental health offices, intensive outpatient programs, hospitals, universities and within the military. I am a Certified Clinical Supervisor (LCSW-NJ), Certified School Social Worker (NJ), Disaster Response Crisis Counselor (DRCC-NJ) and former Military Family Life Counselor (MFLC).

Many of us experience events in life that can affect our daily functioning and routine and that can leave us feeling overwhelmed. At times, this can cause us to experience emotions that may be uncomfortable such as depression, anxiety or anger.

I feel that my exposure and experiences have equipped me with the cultural, social awareness and sensitivity necessary to treat individuals from all cultures challenged with adversity. I am passionate about preventative approaches and have developed a curriculum to educate adults and teenagers about healthy relationship dynamics.

The relationship between the therapist and client is the most important predictor of a successful experience in counseling. I treat adults, adolescents, and couples who are experiencing difficulty with anxiety, depression, addiction, divorce, relationships, anger, loss and trauma. I engender an environment of trust and support for clients in a safe, therapeutic atmosphere where clients can feel comfortable discussing personal issues. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, and motivational enhancement, as well as protocols for addiction, including smoking cessation.

Life is sometimes a difficult process especially when a partner or child needs, but doesn't want therapy. It can become very painful for yourself or the loved one whose behavior is affecting the whole family. You may even be combing these ads trying to sort out where to start. Sometimes you need someone who knows how to allow a person to open up in their own time. Someone who can work with them through their fears. I have experience in: Child Therapy, Addressing resistance, Mandated clients and LGBTQ concerns. I utilize a variety of techniques toward this aim including EMDR and Play (Sandtray) therapy.

How do we make sense of our stuff? This is a critical question. Life can be challenging and sometimes we can’t understand what we are experiencing and why. Much of our ability to overcome adversity originates from our mindset- how we process our experiences. It is the lens through which we view our reality. Essentially, what contributes to our overall well-being is not necessarily the absence of setbacks but rather how we respond to these experiences. I work with my clients to help them shift their mindset and to find meaning in all of life’s experiences.

Emotional difficulties block the path to a satisfying life that may manifest as depression, anxiety, bi-polar, anger/rage, psychosis and even suicidal thoughts. People may turn to destructive behaviors - substance/alcohol abuse, promiscuity, eating disorders or self-injury to find relief. Client is s 25 -year-old Single/African American female involved with CPS/DCP&P, two years in recovery, newly employed, has an apartment, and working towards reunification of her three children ages 7, 8, and 10 all girls. Client expressed being nervous, anxious, stressed, and fearful about this process. this is our third session, and we begin our sessions with a mindfulness exercise to get centered and lessen stressful feelings. Following that we begin to talk about the circumstances. Then we utilize reflective approaches and strength base approaches to place the circumstance in a perspective that could lessen stress.....

I earned my MA in Counseling with a specialization in Family, Marriage, and Couples Counseling from Pillar College. Additionally, I earned my undergraduate degree in English from Kean University and a Social Science degree from Brookdale Community College.
