In times of stress, loss and confusion it is easy to lose sight of ones strengths; the most important thing I can offer is to help you rediscover those strengths.
My approach to therapy is to acknowledge and respect that this is a collaborative process where we together explore how your beliefs, thoughts, and unique chemistry, along with your physical health, social and spiritual experiences affect who you are and how satisfied you are with your life. In a safe and comfortable environment we can learn what it is you are want to understand and what you wish to accomplish in our work together. I provide counseling, therapy, medication management and alternatives to medication when indicated. I have experience working with individuals, couples and families.

I have a special interest in providing treatment to individuals dealing with loss and relationship issues.
I would like to work with you to remove barriers to your ability to enjoy life and experience personal happiness. Together we can identify and change patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behavior that have become barriers to your happiness. If you are experiencing low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, or are going through a difficult change in your life, I can help you by providing therapy and, if needed, psychiatric medications.

Common conditions I see include ADHD/ADD, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, PTSD, bereavement, body dysmorphia, and gender dysphoria.
Mental clarity, strength and resilience have become passions of mine, driving me to perfect an integrated approach to practice. I want to meet you where you are, regardless of where that is mentally and physically, and together we will work to improve your well-being. I will listen carefully to ensure I understand your concerns and goals; and together we will develop a treatment plan you are comfortable with. This may include medication management, counseling, or both.

I am accepting new patients. My experience has taught me that healing is a journey we most often do not venture alone. Mental health, like physical health, is a lifelong journey. With life changes, some experience anxiety, grief, or trauma that hits with a sudden agony similar to breaking a bone. For others, depression parallels chronic pain, as a daily weight a person carries for years and yearns to set down. I see myself as a guide, providing insights, recommendations, and tools grounded in scientific evidence.

I am a Mayo Clinic and Harvard-trained psychiatrist with over 20 years of experience working in healthcare. I discovered a love for the humanities—notably literature and philosophy—early in life due to the profound way in which they helped me to understand and appreciate the human condition. This eventually merged with an interest in medicine and a desire to help improve people's lives. My interactions with patients tend to be relational and existentially-oriented, focusing heavily on personal growth and empowerment within a larger context of meaning and values.

Grief Psychiatrists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
