Know that you are not alone and that healing is possible for you. Any mental anguish you experience in connection with growing up; encountering bullying, tragedy, or violence; losing someone or something dear to you; or facing overwhelming circumstances does not define who you are. You are so much more than your depression, your anxiety, your loss, or what happened to you. My treatment philosophy incorporates the Swedish principle of LAGOM: "Not too little, not too much; just right. Being in perfect balance.” Together, we’ll tailor a personalized treatment plan that capitalizes on your strengths and moves you toward your best life.

It can be difficult for any person to overcome mental and emotional struggles on their own. It isn’t enough to simply want to feel better or want to stop hurting. Sometimes the emotional pain can feel like too much to handle... It doesn't have to be that way. • Hopelessness • Worry • Fear • Mental fatigue • Irritability • Feeling overwhelmed • Sleep problems • Mood swings • Disorganized thinking • Poor motivation • Anxiety attacks • Substance abuse • Intrusive thoughts • We can help. Our approach to treating mental illness begins with effective communication and focuses on the root cause of the problem, not just the symptoms.

I enjoy working with children, teens and adults who are experiencing both minor and more severe mental health conditions and feel that they can benefit from the addition of medication to their treatment plan. I encourage my patients to take an active role in therapy in addition to medication management for ideal results.

Now accepting new clients! Do you feel overwhelmed, and your coping skills aren't working? Whether you are struggling with ADHD, crippling anxiety, the deep pit of depression, or the mental gymnastics of OCD, the solution often requires more than a "chin up" or a positive attitude. This is where medication plays a critical role in mental health recovery. Proper medication can lift you out of a mental rut, allowing you to work on yourself in ways that you might not have been able to prior. This work on yourself will ultimately lead to the lasting peace you deserve.

Jonathan started his career as a registered nurse working in various hospital settings and departments including medical/surgical, telemetry, and intensive care units. In his work, he frequently observed the correlation that poor mental health often leads to physical deterioration and hospitalization. Seeing this phenomenon guided Jonathan to aim his career toward mental healthcare, which he believes to be the foundation of overall well-being. He began to work in inpatient and outpatient psychiatric settings and earned a Master of Science degree from Wilkes University in nursing as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.

Male Psychiatrists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
