Psychoanalytic process respects the unconscious--that our actions can be shaped as much by our fears as by our desires, and that sometimes the two are one in the same.
As a psychoanalyst my approach is grounded in a humble appreciation for how individuals work to create a way of life that is safe and enriching, based on an understanding that at times despite best efforts we can feel pain, sadness or anger or even wrestle with unwanted feelings or behaviors that we cannot quite name. Psychoanalytic psychotherapy can be helpful in that it allows one to incorporate a view of the past that can shed light on present struggles. It is based on the belief that we employ particular coping strategies to manage the challenges inherent in being a subject in the

What do you want to get from a therapeutic encounter? Perhaps you hope it will open doors or you wish to validate decisions made in your life. Alternatively you feel that your kindest and most creative self is limited in its potentialities and you are unsure why you feel depressed, anxious, or unfulfilled. Maybe you need to explore the emotional impact of an illness, or, the effects of psychological and environmental stressors on your body (unexplainable physical complaints, professional burnout). In all these situations, consider a psychoanalytical consultation that begins with the doctor-patient relationship as the treatment of choice.

My practice includes the treatment of individuals with a variety of clinical concerns with a specialized focus on mood, anxiety, trauma, and attentional problems. I value a thorough diagnostic assessment in order to provide individualized care. Because I am skilled in utilizing biological treatments, such as psychiatric medication, as well as psychotherapy, I can provide multiple treatment options. I emphasize a thorough discussion of my diagnostic impressions, and I strongly encourage patients to ask questions and share in treatment decisions. My goal is for patients to feel comfortable and confident with their care.

In poignant fashion, Kermit the Frog once sang, “it’s not easy being green”. If we replace “green” with anxious, angry, sad, depressed, lonely, or hurt, we feel the truth of the lyric. But for many of us that feel “green” over time, it can start to feel like it’s not easy being “me”. To make things even more difficult, most of the things that make us, “us”, are physically unseen; our personalities, our traumas (known or unknown), our beliefs, our emotions and thoughts. Navigating the “unseen” aspects in us is what fuels my passion in psychiatry, and to offer any support in that journey, is an honor.

Therapy can help you get relief from painful emotional symptoms and feel understood as a unique individual;you can usually achieve emotional freedom and improve your personal relationships. One can also became more productive at work and have more pleasure in life. Changing life long ways of coping that just are not working, and that are self destructive. I also tend to see patients who are at crossroad trying to deal with crises in their lives(divorce, losses, and problems in their love life).
Therapy can also prevent the past from interfering with one's present life.

Does psychoanalytic therapy work?
Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviors. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.
How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?
Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behavior is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.
Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?
Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.
Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?
Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
