In my experience as a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, I have attempted to help people struggling with emotional difficulties, compromised productivity, troubled relationships, and stunted creativity. Sometimes these difficulties yield to medications, advice, or short-term strategies. Sometimes they are the product of conflicts with a long history that result in frustrating repetitions that cost the patient time, pleasure, and fulfillment. Until these conflicts and feelings can be talked about they will show up as action and people will feel stuck and hopeless. Psychotherapy and psychoanalysis can break this logjam and free the individual to choose their own course.
My goal is to provide an assessment that is sensitive to the depth and complexity of my patient's difficulties, and to provide a pragmatic treatment that is tailored to the particular circumstances of a unique individual.
