I am passionate about helping my clients achieve more of what they want in their life by providing the best care for their mental health. I provide in person and Telehealth Psychiatric appointments.

Please note that individual sessions are not offered at this location. Water Gap Wellness offers an intensive mental health and substance use treatment that requires a continuous commitment of 6 hours per day 6 days per week. Housing is available upon request. I take a holistic approach to psychiatric care. I first seek to understand a client's goals and meet them where they are. Treatment plans often vary significantly between clients. I feel it is important we utilize whatever strengths a client has and develop plans that integrate one's values, spiritual beliefs, physical limitations, and culturally relevant beliefs. I feel compassion and empathy are some of the most important qualities in this field and I am grateful to have gotten the chance to work with so many wonderful people.

Everyone is different, I don't judge. Sometimes people are doing well and just need a new prescriber or an ear to listen. Some want a mind, body, spirit overhaul. Some want to remember to breath, stop mood swings, rediscover their true self, stop hallucinating, reduce stress, find meaning, not harm them self, over come spiritual blocks, be less aggressive, more sexy, or less passive. Clients who want deep change are most likely to benefit if they are willing to look deeply and honestly into their own mind, behavior, body and soul. Change is hard work. Dr. Monheit has been practicing psychiatry for over 30 years. He is board certified in adult psychiatry. While his primary responsibility diagnosis and medication management, he has completed psychoanalytic training and has many years of experience in eastern philosophy and practices. He has taught at the medical school and postgraduate levels. Dr. Monheit treats a variety of mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, schizophrenia, bipolar and schizoaffective disorders amongst others.

While I tailor treatment to the individual, as a psychoanalyst I place special importance on gaining insight about unconscious contributors to current difficulties. I also appreciate the importance of clarifying and resolving here-and-now problems. When appropriate I prescribe medications or work short-term. My style is collaborative rather than authoritarian. For many years I have taught psychotherapy and psychoanalysis to trainees in these fields. I also teach professional ethics. I have published in the major journals in my field and am a training and supervising psychoanalyst.
