My educational background was primarily in cognitive and clinical psychology research. While in school, I had the opportunity to interact with many mental healthcare providers in the field. Although I loved researching and contributing to the development of our collective knowledge of mental health, I felt I could impart the most good in a direct care role. I graduated with high honors from Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College before earning my master's and doctorate degrees in nursing from Columbia University.

Dr. Rao attended New Jersey Medical School, opted to stay in NJ for psychiatric residency training at Rutgers University and then pursued fellowship training there in child and adolescent psychiatry.
