Having trained and served at New York Medical College's Manhattan campus, I have extensive experience diagnosing and managing a range of conditions from depression and anxiety, to PTSD and OCD.
I treat adult patients who are looking for a psychiatrist that provides comprehensive and attentive care. Too often have I heard the phrase repeated: "no one has ever really listened to me before." I believe that to address someone's problem, we need to know who that person is and what their individual goals are, not just the characteristics of the problem. Let's get you back to feeling like your full self.

My general empathic and calm nature provides patients/clients comfort, allowing us to diffuse stress, anxiety and depression in a safe, nurturing environment without biases and without judgement.
I have been helping adolescents/adults navigate through difficult psychiatric/emotional states for over 10 years. I conduct psychiatric evaluations and initiate/manage medication. I employ an evidenced-based medical and holistic approach to treatment - incorporating lifestyle changes, nutrition, and meditation/breathing/relaxation exercises in addition to treatment with medication.

While stigma persists regarding seeking mental health treatment, the evidence suggests taking proper care of your mental health/hygiene does positively affect your overall livelihood in terms of reducing stress and worry while gaining happiness and contentment, so I encourage you to reach out to me for support.
A key component of growth and development is to gain control and mastery in areas we find challenging. And sometimes, disruption in one’s mental health can get in the way of acquiring such mastery. Seeking help to improve your mental wellbeing is what can make the difference.

Are you tired of your mental illness defining you? You may be unsure of the way forward, feeling anxious, fearful, angry, and hopelessness. You might not know how your mental illness overcame you. But one thing is for sure: you’re ready for some relief. You’re ready to stop masking your suffering but instead break through it. You are ready to know stability. Most of all, you are ready to live your best life. Clients come to me looking for a provider who understands there is not one pathway to becoming overwhelmed by mental illness and the journey to wellness is not one size fits all.

I treat patients with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, substance use disorders, personality disorders, developmental disorders, and other mental health issues.
I attended medical school in South Korea and moved to the US after graduation. I was involved in research for new treatment options for brain tumors in Radiation Oncology. After years of research, I decided to pursue psychiatry with the vision of a more holistic approach to mental health care rather than just focusing on the pathology of the human brain. I take a comprehensive approach to understand each individual's physical, mental, and social issues. I highly value the importance of psychopharmacology combined with psychotherapy and psychoanalytic assessment.

Anxiety Psychiatrists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
