I was trained in CBT and was given the Excellence in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy during my residency program. I use supportive therapy with each client I see. Dr. Reiser (she/her) is a Staff Psychiatrist at Kendall Psychological Associates, where she works with adults of all ages and backgrounds. I work with patients from 1x/week to 4x/week depending on the patient's need for more or less intensive therapy. While the past as a determinant of the present is acknowledged the work is done in the here and now.

People go to clinicians with symptoms. The job of a good clinician should be to find out what is causing those symptoms, and then to diagnose and treat those causes, sometimes with medications, sometimes with psychotherapies. Instead, many people receive a drug for each symptom, or psychotherapies instead of appropriate medications. They are then overtreated in many cases, undertreated in others. My approach is to treat diseases, when present, not symptoms. And my approach to diagnosis goes beyond simplistic reliance on DSM labels. This approach is scientifically sound, independent minded, and not the conventional wisdom.
