Welcome to Rula! My name is Kathy Hunter and I am a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner with experience in subacute detox, inpatient psychiatry, community mental health, a university counseling center, and inpatient pediatric psychiatry liaison. I am passionate about removing mental health stigma and focusing on health disparities in marginalized populations. I seek to have a strong working relationship with my patients, with a primary focus on autonomy, respect, relationships, and a deep understanding of how one's environment will have an impact on goals and progress.
I utilize many different therapy modalities including but not limited to CBT, Person-Centered, Motivational Interviewing, and ACT. I enjoy working with a broad range of patients and am board-certified across the lifespan. I aim to provide an accepting and non-judgmental safe place to receive treatment.
I have a strong passion for working with adolescents and young adults, which ties into my long history of pediatric nursing prior to graduate school. Getting mental health treatment takes immense courage on the part of the patient and my goal is to make it meaningful and something to look forward to!
