Hello, I'm Julie. I'm a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and I assist adults and children with mood and other mental health disorders. Via psychotherapy and if needed, support with medication, I work with patients in addressing key mental health challenges in their lives. I believe in a holistic approach to treatment, and provide a safe, supportive and nonjudgmental environment which allows you to feel more comfortable talking about your concerns, issues and stressors. I have had an outpatient practice for 41 years. During my residency at Michael Reese Hospital, I taught a psychiatry course to medical students. After graduation I worked at Illinois Masonic Hospital in a women's health clinic addressing the emotional needs of women. I also worked at both a nursing home and assisted living facility doing both talk therapy and medication. I enjoy working with both young and older adults from varied backgrounds. But for many of us that feel “green” over time, it can start to feel like it’s not easy being “me”. To make things even more difficult, most of the things that make us, “us”, are physically unseen; our personalities, our traumas (known or unknown), our beliefs, our emotions and thoughts. Navigating the “unseen” aspects in us is what fuels my passion in psychiatry, and to offer any support in that journey, is an honor.

I am a board-certified psychiatrist who specializes in the treatment of adults. After earning my Bachelor’s in Biochemistry from Rice University, I completed my medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. I then completed my residency training at UIC in Chicago, where I focused on the individual treatment of adult patients with mood and anxiety disorders using a comprehensive approach to mental health involving medication and therapy. However, during training, I also gained valuable experience managing a vast array of conditions, including ADHD, substance use disorders, and PTSD, among many others.

Sarah Tisser was born and raised in France and lived in Israel for 10 years. She is a Board-Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner who is qualified to diagnose, treat, and prescribe medication for children and adults. She has experience treating all psychiatric disorders, including perinatal mental health: She is PSI certified. Sarah also treats patients with sexual dysfunction due to anxiety and depression, and would adjust medications to avoid sexual side effects. She sees clients aged 6 years and up.

My passion and appreciation for mental health began at a young age. My mother worked as an inpatient behavioral health Registered Nurse, which provided a roof over our heads and food on our table. As a family, we respected the field not only for what it provided for us but also for teaching us that all human beings need access to the mental health care that they deserve. Watching my mom, I learned that all people from all cultures and all walks of life need compassionate care because our ideas, stories, memories, sanity, and communication skills unify us as human beings.
