Dr. Amelia Merz strives to provide compassionate, patient-focused care in a collaborative process with you & your therapist to achieve recovery from mental health problems and substance abuse. She is board certified in Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine and is certified by Postpartum Support International in Perinatal Mental Health. She uses an evidence-based approach in her practice. She trained at the University of Minnesota where she completed both medical school and residency. Dr. Merz has practiced in many settings including outpatient clinics, residential treatment centers and inpatient psychiatric hospitals.

I am currently full and not taking on new clients. I specialize in mood, anxiety and trauma disorders. I work with clients who struggle with the ways they behold themselves and intimate others in their lives. In my practice, I use a psychoanalytic approach, and I strive to listen deeply without judgement. My aim is to help you notice the frustrating, painful and repetitive patterns in your experiences so that you might feel more capable of making different choices and living a fuller, richer life. Medications may or may not be part of our treatment plan.

I also have additional training in evidenced-based nutraceuticals and non-prescription medications. I take into account any genetic predispositions, family history, upbringing, and life experiences before offering a diagnosis. I am a board-certified Nurse Practitioner and am dually certified in Family and Psychiatric medicine. Initially, I obtained my Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Degree, as I was unsure of what area of medicine I was interested in. All I knew was that I had a burning desire to improve my patients' overall health and well-being through independent practice. In 2019, I began thinking it was time to start focusing on my passion for mental health. Andreea Seicean, MD, PhD, MPH, completed her training at Case Western Reserve University, the Cleveland Clinic, and the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). She has extensive experience treating mood and anxiety disorders and addiction in teens and adults. Dr. Seicean has published more than forty articles and been the recipient of multiple awards from: The National Institute of Mental Health, The American Psychiatric Association and The American Association of Neurological Surgeons. She is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago where she continues to be active in research and teaches psychopharmacology.

I work primarily with individuals, providing psychotherapy (talk therapy) and medication when needed. Much of my experience has involved helping people with depression, relationship problems, parenting or medical illness. I have friends and colleagues from various ethnic, SOGI and religious backgrounds. I understand firsthand the pain of divorce, and as a parent I understand the challenges of this (sometimes) impossible job!
