My journey to becoming a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) took a nontraditional route. Initially leaving school to work in construction, I later earned my GED, driven by a desire to make a meaningful impact in people’s lives. This realization led me to pursue and obtain my degree from Vanderbilt University, marking the beginning of my career in mental health.

Maria Nieves is a Bi-Lingual (English and Spanish) Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in Florida who has been practicing since 2022. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Nursing in 1997 at Medical Science Campus University in Puerto Rico. She completed her Master of Science in Nursing specializing in psychiatry from Walden University in 2022. She has more than 26 years of clinical experience in various settings including Primary care, Emergency Room, Oncology, Home Health, and Acute/Inpatient psychiatric care.

Dr Denise Barnard is a board-certified psychiatrist trained in child, adolescent and adult psychiatry. She has been successfully practicing in the Central Florida Area for over 30 years, proudly serving patients from the ages of 4 years old to 60. Dr Barnard graduated from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. She believes in a team treatment approach with focus on illnesses such as ADD, ADHD, mood disorders and anxiety, just to name a few. On her spare time Denise Barnard enjoys travelling, gardening and volunteering.

I am a double board-certified psychiatrist and addiction medicine physician with added qualification in child and adolescent psychiatry. With over 17 years of experience as a clinician and educator, with specialties in Addiction Medicine, Mental Health, Detox, Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) , Pain Management, Military Mental Health, and Harm Reduction. My overall mission is to help clients regain control of their life, and in that way, they can live to the fullest with their loved ones.

I enjoy collaborating with patients who are dealing with challenges such as ADHD, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and men's health issues. My ideal patient has a strong desire to make positive lifestyle changes even if they lack the motivation to do so.
