Dr. Ahmed is an Affiliate Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences at the University of South Florida. He completed his residency training at Temple University Hospital in psychiatry and then joined Johns Hopkins School of Medicine where he completed a two-year fellowship in Neuropsychiatry and Behavioral Neurology. He moved to Tampa in 2016 to start his private neuropsychiatry practice, Tampa Neuropsychiatry LLC. Dr. Ahmed specializes in the treatment of psychiatric disorders including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, schizophrenia, and adult ADHD. He also has subspecialty training in dementia including Alzheimer's and brain injuries.

This requires time and commitment from the patient and psychiatric specialist to work together to achieve the desired success. I am double board-certified in Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine. I believe in using both medication when indicated as well as therapy. I was trained in CBT and was given the Excellence in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy during my residency program. I use supportive therapy with each client I see. During my residency I served as Chief Resident and was awarded the Overall Excellence in Psychiatry Award as well as the Clinical Excellence Award.

Our provider is dual-board certified as a family practice and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. The primary focus of this practice is to meet the mental health needs of the clients served. Dr. Thorkelson is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Medicine at The University of Pittsburgh. He completed his adult residency training at Temple University and his child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at The University of Pittsburgh where he continued on in three roles: as Associate Medical Director at the Center for Integrative Medicine, as staff psychiatrist at the John Merck Center for Autism and Developmental Disorders, and through the Visceral Inflammation and Pain (VIP) Center in the Department of Gastroenterology. Dr. Thorkelson specializes in the treatment of anxiety, autism, ADHD, and depression.
