Deirdre Mullen is a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner and family nurse practitioner. She has been caring for diverse communities of patients for almost thirty years working mostly in Manhattan. She began her career as an RN in 1993 in Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and received her MSN from Columbia University School of Nursing in 2000. While working as a Family Nurse Practitioner, Deirdre began to notice a lack of psychiatric services available when she referred patients for assistance with their mental health.
Patients frequently voiced frustration about being unable to find a clinician or being unable to connect with a therapist. Deirdre decided to become a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) herself in order to be where that help was needed and this is now her main focus.
Deirdre is very interested in caring for patients with all different types of mental health problems. She has also treated patients with substance use disorders and has found helping patients with different types of this affliction to be extremely challenging and rewarding. She prefers a style of communication is very honest, open, and supportive.
