Many people who suffer from anxiety and/or depression are not aware of the contribution of addictive behavior or being in a relationship with an addict to their psychological symptoms.
As a group psychotherapist and addiction psychiatrist, I am available to work with you on any phase of recovery from addictions, compulsive behaviors and the effects of being in a relationship with an addict (whether parent, sibling, partner or child). I understand addiction as a broad disease, including substances (alcohol, nicotine, opiates, stimulants, sedatives and other drugs), food, sex, money, work and codependence. I often work in collaboration with individual therapists and mutual support groups to enhance the effectiveness of each intervention.

I specialize in addressing depression, anxiety, life transitions, and relationship difficulties.
Relationship problems, struggles at work, and life events can challenge our ability to cope and ultimately to thrive in life. Patterns may emerge in your life that are confusing, that make you feel stuck, uncertain, and conflicted. Life transitions can tax our internal resources, and we may find ourselves lacking in fulfillment and happiness. Above all, I strive to support my clients to increase their life satisfaction, reduce their suffering, and strengthen their relationships and capacity for joy.

We believe that healing occurs relationally, through being accepted when one is their fully Authentic Self. Our diverse network of providers practice from a heart-centered approach and are here to meet each individual on their own unique timeline. Symptoms of our mind-body are often times trying to communicate, so we listen to the whole-person instead of just trying to suppress them from talking. We will empower one’s Self-Agency, encourage a variety of approaches to build the Foundation, regulate the nervous system, improve presence, decrease stress reactivity, stabilize mood, and be attuned to the inputs & outputs of our Energy.

Therapy can help you get relief from painful emotional symptoms and feel understood as a unique individual;you can usually achieve emotional freedom and improve your personal relationships. One can also became more productive at work and have more pleasure in life. Changing life long ways of coping that just are not working, and that are self destructive. I also tend to see patients who are at crossroad trying to deal with crises in their lives(divorce, losses, and problems in their love life). Therapy can also prevent the past from interfering with one's present life.

Couples Counseling Psychiatrists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
