I have always been the friend that people have been able to turn to and consider a good listener. I love hearing people’s stories. While initially interested in psychology- and receiving my undergraduate degree in it- I initially resisted the inclination to go into psychiatry during medical school. However, during my clinical rotations, the psychiatry rotation was the one that left me feeling the most excited, engaged, and “alive.” I recognized this was my calling and continue to feel humbled and grateful to work with my patients.

My passion stems from a deep-seated desire to help those in crisis or in need. I believe humans are complicated and not perfect all the time. All of those aspects make the whole person. I use my clinical skills to guide people in the right direction and build treatment plans to help my patients find relief from the suffering they may be experiencing. In working with patients, I meet them where they are emotionally and build a collaborative partnership to help each person live their happiest, best lives.

I have an interest in helping adolescent and young adult populations. I believe that providing mental health resources to people in the foundation stages of their life can set them up for success in the future. This also gives more time to figure out what works best for each patient to grow with them. I first earned a degree in Psychology to pursue my passion for the mind and its abilities. But after graduation, I realized I wanted to be in a career that helps people understand the mind and helps them become the best versions of themselves through the healing process.

Call now & let’s talk about it. The interactions that occur between our bodies, minds, & environment have always piqued my curiosity. This curiosity has taken me on a plethora of excursions as I have learned how we come to be such distinct individuals. The medical specialty that makes the most sense is psychiatry and the bio-psycho-social approach, which considers all facets of a person's life. Being an integrative psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, I am receptive to both conventional & complementary/alternative methods for achieving recovery and completeness.

My treatment philosophy is to get to know each person as a whole. I want to get to know you, your story, and what matters to you. If needed, I will help you tell your story. I approach the therapeutic relationship as a partnership built on trust and communication with you in the driver’s seat. The better you can help me understand your world, the better I can pull from the resources available to me to share with you. You will understand what is going on with you or your child and be active participants in this journey. I enjoy working with parents/caregivers and families and believe it is essential to a child’s treatment & recovery.

Recently I trained in EMDR and DBT, as well as ketamine assisted psychotherapy (KAP).
My psychiatry practice is focused on you and how you can best achieve your goals, whether that is medication, psychotherapy, lifestyle changes, or a combination of all three. Let's work together to help you get 'unstuck'. As a psychiatrist I am comfortable with prescribing medications as well as therapy. The first half of my residency training was in the Family Medicine Dept. at the University of Iowa, and the second was in Psychiatry at the University of South Alabama, where I am an Adjunct Professor. Psychiatry was the natural choice because I enjoy having the time to listen and understand in order to personalize recommendations.

Call or send us a message. We may ask you for some more info. If I think I can help, that's great. Usually I find options other doctors might have missed. So, often clients are satisfied with their results. Some describe their experiences: Darcy T "Dr. Kron is an incredible doctor. I already dread the day of his retirement. He is so wonderful, kind, and helpful and has been a ray of clarity in this sometimes hostile world. He has been my Dr for getting close to 20 years and I can honestly say I love him and feel so lucky I found him. Can’t recommend him enough. Brilliant and intelligent doctor, exceptional person on top." 4/22/2024

Who is DBT for?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.
Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.
What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.
How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
