Combining Science with Kindness is what drew me to psychiatry and is the cornerstone of my practice. After graduating from Brown Medical School, I completed my psychiatry training at UCSF. I have been practicing psychiatry for over 30 years. I currently treat veterans at the Oakland VA Clinic and teach medical students at UCSF. I am proficient at treating Anxiety/Panic Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Major Depression, ADHD, Addiction, and Trauma. My practice is primarily focused on pharmacologic treatment though I always view my patients through a holistic lens. The engine of my practice is curiosity and compassion.

Bay Area Clinical Associates (BACA) is a physician-owned and operated organization committed to providing integrated, scientific, empathetic mental health treatment for kids, teens, young adults and their families. As a note, we serve only ages 26 years and under. BACA is comprised of a multidisciplinary team of child & adolescent psychiatrists, licensed marriage & family therapists, and licensed clinical social workers. We work to take the "mystery" out of psychiatric care and have a relaxed, fun, caring environment at our clinics. Our Berkeley outpatient clinic is currently impacted but we have openings for our IOPs.

During college, I developed an interest in psychology and neuroscience. After college, I became a middle school teacher, and found my passion in working with children and families. I believe in a holistic approach to mental health that encompasses physical health and psychological health. I work with patients and families in a collaborative manner, setting shared treatment goals, and believe that patients often hold the key to moving forward towards these goals.

I treat adults who are struggling with a range of emotional pain or anxieties. Problems I try to help people sort out include loss and grief, the impact of loss on relationships and the meaning of a life indelibly altered; illness, new or a new stage of it, and how it impacts one's sense of self, potential, and meaning; identity, related to race, ethnicity, sexuality or gender; the complexity of parenting or having difficult parents; and ordinary but intimidating transition from one stage of life to another, the changes to the body, meaning, and connections to others that come with these transitions.

As a child and adolescent psychiatrist with nearly two decades worth of experience, I have come to cherish the collaborative aspects of patient care above all else. Treatment and recovery become more meaningful and durable when defined by patients, families, and doctors together. (Or, as some. might say, multiple heads are better than one.) In working with diverse populations, it has also become evident to me that "medication-only" treatment models have their place, but are limited in what they can do and what they should be asked to do. This is especially true in the child and adolescent population.

I'm a board-certified, integrative pediatric and adult psychiatrist. I work with people interested in targetting root causes of suffering as much as possible. We know that for many, the roots can be psychological and in brain connections/wiring. New therapies allow us to target both of these more than ever.: Neurofeedback, TMS, Genetic and EEG markers that can personalize lifestyle, supplement and medication treatment. When properly used in the right setting, ketamine is known to dramatically speed up psychotherapy progress.

I am a board certified adult psychiatrist and see patients for therapy with or without medication. My focus is in Depression, Anxiety, and OCD. However, what I emphasize in sessions is not the general diagnosis but the particularity, uniqueness, and subjectivity of a patient. I strive to create a space in which the patient's subjectivity emerges. Then to explore and work through what emerges in this process guides me. My hope is that a patient becomes more aware of themselves, their issues, and through this process achieve a sense of satisfaction and joy.

My practice here is based on two fundamental clinical ideas: The first is that in medication management, most psychiatrists are too timid regarding escalation of a medication algorithm, and they're not weighing the risks and benefits to the patient. It's a principal agent problem. My second concern is that as psychotherapists, some (not all, but some) of the core ideas of our therapeutic culture are theoretically flawed, and this makes them counterproductive, or at least less productive than they could be. Fees: $215 for 30 min follow up and $330 for 60 min intake. Visit my website / substack for more info. (link to side)

Our group of experienced clinicians has a collective goal of making high-quality mental health care more accessible. At DIA Health, you will have a dedicated mental health care clinician who will provide treatment tailored to your individual needs to help you live and function better. Personalized, high-quality mental health care is often out of reach to the average patient and family. To address this gap, we focus on patients who choose to use their commercial insurance to cover mental health care needs.
