After completing my Master’s as a Family Nurse Practitioner, my passion for mental health led me to further my education and become a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). My training provided valuable experience in dual diagnosis patients, helping me understand the complex interplay between mental health and substance use. This allows me to partner with patients in finding comprehensive solutions. I follow trauma informed care guidance and have experience in managing depressive, anxious, manic, psychotic and substance use disorders.

A life where being free from debilitating anxiety is possible.
Do you find yourself feeling on edge with anxiety, stress, and worried sick no matter what you do? Anxiety leaves us feeling panicked, exhausted and disconnected. You’re someone who deeply wants to feel peace, relaxed, and safe but still find yourself feeling out of control and heart racing. You want to feel calm and have no idea how to get there. You are ready to feel like yourself again, grounded with no fear or panic. You are ready to feel at ease in public and embrace connection at work and in your relationships. Most of all, you are ready to be free from the burden of anxiety, causing depression- I want to help you get there.

My approach to care is rooted in authenticity, curiosity, and respect and I bring strong communication and assessment skills to all of my patient encounters. I am most fulfilled working with people who are motivated to feel well, but don't know where to begin. You are the expert on yourself; I can meet you where you're at and be your advocate, guide, and partner on your mental health journey. I will likely be a good fit as a provider for you if you are interested in supportive talk therapy, exploration of lifestyle and nutrition, and a holistic/integrative approach to care versus a 10 minute check in regarding medication.

I am a board certified psychiatric and mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP-BC) and specialized in psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis and evidenced based treatment including medication management of mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, Adjustment disorder, Bipolar, ADHD.
No man is an Island, we are not meant to live in pain alone. Mental struggles hurt more than physical pain. Unfortunately it receives less attention, less empathy and compassion and more judgement than physical pain. I was raised to live in a community and build up the weak and hurting in the community because we are as strong as the strength of our weakest brethren. My goal as a psychiatric provider is to unconditionally support, build, strengthen and alleviate the judgement, and pain of mental struggles; this I achieve through empathy, listening, honest communication, building trust and strong partnership with my clients.

Everybody has problems. They might be relationships, job stress, depression, anxiety, moodswings... I posit every problem has a solution and that we can work together to find it. I have helped people for over 25 years. I am a board certified psychiatrist. I am empathic & nonjudgemental. You and I will become partners in understanding which of these issues are uniquely yours, and how you have been dealing with them. We all use tools which may have worked with past problems but in fact may be working against us now. We can replace these with successful ways of dealing with life!

Anxiety Psychiatrists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
