Addiction Support Groups in Seattle, WA

Adult men and women identify personal strategies for sobriety and recovery and create a safe place for giving and receiving support. While we respect 12-step approaches, we are interested in helping those who are looking for an alternative to 12 step programs. We utilize an integration of evidence-based and theory-based interventions drawn from cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness practice, and practical application of emerging research in neuroscience. Our work is informed by practical application of interpersonal neurobiology and regulation theory. In a word, we emphasize the transformative power of self care, abstinence and seeking support in healthy relationships.

I've also spent the majority of my practice working with individuals with mental illness, addiction issues and criminal consequences.
Calling the truth-seekers, the plant medicine-sitters, "the lovers, the dreamers, and me", this is an invitation to work with someone who *gets it* and is committed to being part of the modern paradigm shift. I don't want to diagnose you, but instead help you find the gift in all the ways you are uniquely YOU. Working for 15+ years in addiction & recovery makes me somewhat of an expert in those realms, but I am much more interested in revealing how YOU are the expert of your experience. Together we will find the path back to your own loving heart thru Inner Child Work and Psychedelic Harm Reduction & Integration. REMEMBER with me

My passion for this work comes from my own recovery from relationships strained due to substance misuse and dependencies.
As the partner affected by the addictive behavior of a loved one, you often find yourself asking what you can do to help them? You have tried many approaches, but none have been long-lasting. Your loved one's addictive behavior is unpredictable, and you are fearful it might get worse. You love your partner, but not their addictive behavior. Reaching out for help can be scary, as you want to be sure that you find a counselor that you can connect with and one that understands addictive behavior.

Dr. Premièr strives to create a safe and accepting environment using gentle humor and empathy that promotes a platform for clients to not only achieve therapeutic goals, but also to reach their ultimate potential. As a writer, he sees the client as the author of their story and the therapist as an editor. The best authors need editors. He believes growth starts with humility and discomfort; therefore, the counseling process can be painful, however, the more effort one puts forth the more constructive results they’ll see.

We all long for intimate human relationship but for many of us, we can't seem to shake this dull aching loneliness that resides in the pit of our souls. However, the inherent human need for meaningful relationships has remained elusive. Often, it feels easier to isolate than to face the intolerable reality. We have become experts at stifling our needs and desires. But when we enter into the presence of another, when we begin to tell our stories of heartache and pain, healing begins. We need a witness to our grief, someone to join alongside us as we lament. Above all, we need a place to experience belonging.

Addiction Support Groups

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
