I pride myself on meeting my client where they are emotionally. My down-to-earth conversation style applies to all walks of life. I believe therapy can be a conversation between friends with affirmation when needed, a direct discussion, or simply a light sense of humor. Life is full of moments. I am here to help the leap from this moment to the next.

I also absolutely love helping others to increase in these areas. I primarily use Cognitive Behavior Therapy, with a mix of Solution based Therapy, and Person Center Therapy, and many different skills and interventions. I have worked in various settings; with clients from many different cultural/ethnic groups; and with various presenting problems. These presenting problems include major depression, anxiety, PTSD, relationship conflicts etc

An intensive outpatient program (IOP) is a combination of counseling and psychoeducation designed to help clients develop a pathway to long-term recovery. At Positive Recovery Center - Energy Corridor, our IOPs, facilitated by highly experienced, licensed and compassionate substance abuse professionals, occur over a 8-10 week period, with clients meeting three times a week for 3-hour group sessions, as well as individual sessions throughout your stay. Families are also invited to attend group sessions bimonthly to learn about and discuss how substance abuse issues affect families, codependency and how they can best support themselves and their loved one through the recovery process.

A PHP is the most intensive form of outpatient treatment. Although it’s called a partial hospitalization program, sessions do not occur in a hospital, and there are no overnight stays. It includes a high level of structure and accountability through individual counseling, group therapy, psychoeducation and family therapy. Given the higher frequency and length of drug and alcohol treatment and counseling sessions, a PHP can help you or a loved one transition from a residential rehab in a supportive environment while continuingly building life skills.

Substance Use Support Groups

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
