Psychotherapy is a profession that invites life-long learning, and I have had years of post-masters training in psychodynamic psychotherapy, transactional analysis, redecision therapy and experiential methods (psychodrama, family sculpting, sociometry). Therapy is for everyone. At some point in their life, most people find themselves in need of a little extra support...someone to listen without judgement, a space to process, and a non-judgmental relationship that can help them find their own answers. My goal as a therapist is to help create a warm, inviting environment where my clients feel comfortable and welcomed. My style is genuine and real. I believe that good therapy is a balance of building a warm, trusting relationship and acquiring practical skills for application.

MEN - We're expected to juggle a lot: work, school, relationships, our health, stress, you name! And, those things aren’t suppose to bother us. For a time we can handle just about anything thrown at us and not be phased...till we can't. The facade can only go on for a little while, then, our masks begin to crack. At least that's my story! How about yours? We look one way, feel another, all while stuffing what's really going on deep down and out of sight. We WILL begin to unravel and that’s when we turn to things that help us numb and check-out. In retrospect, those things worked well but now they're just us causing more problems.
This is a virtual open parenting group designed to help parents handle their children's difficult behaviors, becoming the parents they want to be, the parents their children need them to be, and the parents they may have needed growing up. I will help provide tools to support your child's healthy development, offer understanding and insight on trauma, attachment, and neurobiology, and encourage reflection on emotional triggers, healthy boundaries, and the importance of having fun together. The goal of this group is to create a supportive community for parents facing similar challenges.

I'm not where I want or need to be. Where do I even begin? I seem to be the only one that struggles. Why can't I fit in? Maybe I just need to try harder or maybe I'll just numb out to it all. If you are in this place, I get it as I've been there. I thought I could find my own peace through making others happy or simply choosing to ignore the anxiety, sadness and despair around me. Fortunately, there are multiple paths to finding what you are looking for - all that is required is a willingness to open yourself up to the counseling process. You've already taken a huge step forward by finding your way to this page - there is hope.

Something isn’t working. Sometimes nothing works. You feel riddled with anxiety, felled by depression, overwhelmed by stress, or stuck in patterns of destructive behavior that leave you feeling hopeless that lasting change will ever take place.
This is a six week intuitive art group focusing on mindful creation and community that is sensory mindful. My goal is to allow space for self discovery through independent work time, journaling, and group reflection of the process. As you get the opportunity to play with clay, we mindfully observe the thoughts and mantras that run through the mind. Together, we will begin examining those thoughts and support one another in our journey towards being still and at peace with those thoughts. This group is perfect for those struggling with art blocks, loneliness, and anyone wanting to know themselves better.

I want to help you find your center again. Anxious or depressive thoughts pop up and interrupt the life you are trying to lead. The story you thought was going to play out for your life, somehow just doesn't happen. I want to help you rewrite whatever parts of your narrative aren't working for you. You can find a way toward a better life, but you have to understand how your story impacts the way you show up in your own skin and the way you pursue relationship. If hope feels hard to find, I can help. The life you want can feel more in reach, as you find a better understanding of who you were meant to be.

Are you a foster or adoptive parent and need support? Are you a teen or young adult feeling anxious, lonely, or disconnected? Navigating through life’s challenges can often feel overwhelming, exhausting, or isolating. My mission is to support you and your family in navigating life’s challenges with more joy and confidence. I know how important it is to be seen, heard, and equipped with tools to navigate difficult feelings, relationships, and transitions. If your goal is to understand yourself or your child better, gain confidence, and explore new perspectives, I would love to walk alongside you and your family.
To paraphrase Maya Angelou and Breneé Brown, you can’t control what has happened to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by it. Owning your story is really really hard, but not nearly as difficult spending a lifetime trying to outrun it. Along with compassionate support from a community of other women trauma survivors, experiential therapy in a group setting can be transformative and effective for: learning to set boundaries, experiencing safety in interpersonal relationships, and finding a deeper sense of self-worth and compassion in healing after trauma.

Hi, I'm so glad you've found my page! Are you at a point in your life where you are considering if therapy may be beneficial for you? Three emphasis: Integrity, Accountability, and Healthy Intimacy. This group is specifically geared for men who have found themselves shackled with negative consequences related to their sexual behavior. The group is capped at 7 individuals, meets weekly for one hour, and holds a space for traditionally emotionally numb men to begin to waken to the full expression of their internal experience. Not for the sake of feeling feelings, but for the purpose of living out your unique purpose where you live, work, and play. We develop and practice emotional intelligence for the purpose of moving into relationship with strength and love.

Do you struggle with sex getting more daily attention than your closest relationships? Maybe a previous infidelity or betrayal continues to plague the relationship? Many of my clients struggle to make sense of emotions, but long to feel safe and connected to friends and family. Despite our best protective strategies, emotional experiences will not be ignored. Over a lifespan, adaptive protective strategies of the past become our prisons. Mal-adaptive in the present, old and helpful strategies of the past form the barriers to trusting safe and connected relationships we all desperately desire.
This is a co-ed interpersonal therapy group that focuses on gaining a greater understanding of yourself and your relational style through honest and vulnerable interaction with other group members and therapists. In this group you will learn to notice, process, and voice your feelings and thoughts about and to others in a direct and effective manner. This group may be beneficial for you if you struggle to connect the way you want to in your relationships, you want to gain more self-awareness of how you are in relationships, or you struggle with social anxiety or other relational anxieties.

Each of us has our own unique path and challenges to navigate in this life. Many of us struggle to find the freedom to live out our truth and to follow our hearts because we are bound by societal and/or familial conditioning and programming that pressures us to fit into a certain mold that may not align with who we are and what we find to be true. This binding can often show up as anxiety or unhappiness, and many of us have trauma that continues to live in our bodies influencing the ways in which we react to what we encounter in life. We can work together to understand and alleviate what is keeping you from being more free.

FAQs - About Group Therapy and Support Groups
How can I find a support group in Brentwood?
Search for nearby support groups by inputting your city, zip code, or the name of the group into the search bar. From there, you can filter to find a group that suits your needs, whether you are looking for support for a teenager, a group that focuses on a specific issue, such as depression, or a particular program type, such as one geared toward developing social skills. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.
How does group therapy work?
Therapy groups are led by one or more therapists and serve to help people process their experiences and learn from others who understand their challenges firsthand. They can be based on a specific issue, such as addiction, grief, physical illnesses, parenting, and caregiving. They can involve a specific type of program or therapy, such as a social skills group or CBT group. They can also be specific to a particular population or community, such as teens or LGBTQ.
Support groups, like Alcoholics Anonymous, also focus on a specific issue, but are typically led by members with lived experiences and are less structured than therapy groups. Most therapy groups will meet for a fixed length of time with a consistent group of members, while many support groups meet for an indefinite period of time with members coming and going.
What are the benefits of group therapy?
Support groups help connect people with shared challenges or physical and mental health conditions. In a group setting, participants can receive support and feedback from peers and can acquire new skills, strategies and perspectives by listening to one another. Discussing your experience with someone who also has a cancer diagnosis, or whose son also struggles with addiction, for example, can help you feel less alone, reduce distress, find empathy and connection, and learn practical or medical information that has helped others. Group therapy can also be a more affordable option than individual therapy and just as effective.
Is group therapy as effective as individual therapy?
Support groups can be deeply valuable for both emotional support and/or treatment outcomes. It’s difficult to make a blanket statement on efficacy due to the many different types of support groups and conditions treated, but group therapy has been found to be just as effective as individual therapy in establishing long-term abstinence for conditions such as substance abuse, addiction and alcohol abuse.
How much does group therapy cost?
Group counseling is typically less expensive than individual counseling, with each session costing on average between $60 to $75. Meanwhile, individual therapy sessions can run anywhere from $100 to $200 and up, even after insurance. It is possible to find low-cost group therapy options and many therapists offer group sessions free of charge.
Does insurance cover group therapy?
As with individual therapy, many insurance companies do offer coverage for group therapy sessions. However, the coverage varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider. Individuals are encouraged to check with their insurance providers to verify coverage.
How long does group therapy last?
The length of a support group session is often one hour but can fall anywhere between 45 minutes and two hours. The amount of time that people remain in a support group varies based on their specific needs and goals and the type of therapy. Some individuals may seek a shorter-term group, such as a bereavement group, that may last between six and 20 weeks. Some may seek a longer-term group that lasts for a year or indefinitely.
What are the limitations of support groups?
Support groups have many benefits, but there are a few limitations as well. Support groups do not constitute formal therapeutic or medical treatment, and are not run by licensed mental health professionals, so some people may opt for group therapy or individual therapy instead. Additionally, support groups can depend on the other participants, so a disruptive individual has the potential to mar the group dynamic, and the anecdotal information shared may sometimes be unhelpful or inaccurate. Because it is a group setting, confidentiality can be more difficult to guard and participants receive less personalized attention than they would in an individual therapy session.
