I have worked extensively in all aspects of mental and emotional challenges with a specialty in life’s most profound loss: death and dying.
"Only when we are brave enough to explore darkness will we discover infinite power of our light - B.B". Through a healthier understanding of our patterns and past we will gain the ultimate goal of therapy: unconditional self-acceptance. I create a safe and respectful space for us to explore ways to reduce your suffering, while creating alignment and joy in yourself and your relationships. I continue to be inspired by the work and the progress I see my clients make every day. My goal is to empower my clients and provide them with the support and tools they need to move forward, feeling more insightful, intentional, and fulfilled.

Individual and small group circles. An invitation to address emotional and physical trauma through sound and self-exploration. A compassionate space to address chronic health issues by enhancing insight, adding clarity to treatment goals, and honoring needed grief work by sharing one's own TRUTH. Research studies show that drumming has evidence based health benefits: Cardiovascular health by lowing one's blood pressure, control of chronic pain by activating specific endorphins, the boosting of one's immune system by decreasing levels of cortisol, and can support cognitive health by activating both sides of the brain.

Engaging a Mindfulness-based, cognitive approach can greatly benefit anyone exploring lifespan challenges and/or their journey towards personal growth. The most powerful relationship you will ever have is the relationship with yourself. Specializing in couples and individual counseling, I have over 28 years of experience addressing marital issues, trauma, anxiety, depression, and grief. In addition to being a psychotherapist and hypnotherapist, I also provide a space (drumming circles) for individuals and/or groups to experience a healing approach through sound and self-expression.

This (virtual) expressive writing and support group is for you if you're seeking a safe and nurturing space to express your experiences of religious trauma and faith deconstruction through the healing power of expressive writing. Writing experience isn’t needed—only a willingness to show up and explore your lived experiences through writing and discussion with other group members who have shared experiences. The writing portion of this class is first and foremost for your own processing and excavation.

I support clients navigating grief, relationship challenges, and those seeking neurodiversity-affirming support. Those who have experienced pain, disappointment, and distress from experiences in faith communities are especially drawn to my work. It is also important to acknowledge how isolating it can be to pause, deconstruct, or reconsider long-held beliefs or spiritual practices that once held a lot of hope and meaning. Or, to simply explore how embracing your full humanity and identity can be celebrated after experiences of being shamed for those aspects of you.

In this group, you’ll have space to share your unique experiences, where your journey is respected, and where you can support others who can relate to your lived experiences. This space will be a reprieve as you navigate the intersection of grief, an evolving belief system, and the impact all of these factors have on relationships with friends and family who may not be supportive or aligned with this journey. This group can provide you with valuable support as you seek out community and connection in new ways.

A PhD in Psychology and a MS in Marriage and Family Therapy, Dr. Thomas's education and training has provided her with a multidimensional perspective- she understands the web of connection and emotional dynamics that unfold in families, couples, and larger systems. Dr. Thomas's philosophical beliefs stem from the understanding that we are connected, and it is through this awareness that we can heal and create meaning from our life experiences.

After 25+ years of providing counseling I find my philosophy has grown simpler and more to the point. Successful counseling is built on a positive and trusting relationship, much as successful living is dependent on trusting, healthy relationships. I bring a broad array of treatment tools to my work including gestalt, object relations and psychodynamic theory. Most importantly I bring myself; my heart, my humor, my understanding, knowledge and years of experience. I work with adults and children, couples and groups(this includes families).

Grief Support Groups

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
