I have worked on with clients on a variety of issues, including: anxiety; mood disorders; trauma; relationships and/or work challenges.
I believe that people seek therapy because they want to feel better and are having difficulty navigating obstacles which stand in their way. Do you feel unsatisfied with your interpersonal relationships? Work? Do you often feel anxious or sad? Do you ever find yourself engaged in destructive patterns and unable to change them? Have you experienced any trauma(s) during your lifetime, which may be contributing to your current mood, behavior and functioning? If you can answer "yes" to some or all of these questions, I can help. I have over 25 years of experience as a practicing therapist in NYC.

My work encompasses dating, intimacy, couples, marriage, and parenting concerns, physical, sexual, and narcissistic abuse, dissociated states, nervous system regulation, and trauma recovery, problems with anxiety, depression, feelings of meaninglessness, true self emergence, college mental health, and treating physicians and mental health professionals.
I provide a warm and safe yet dynamic environment in which my clients express their innermost thoughts, gain insight, heal wounds and learn to live with more confidence, humor and joy. With 25 years of supervising and clinical experience with children, adults and couples, I am able to quickly attune and help clients feel at ease. I listen closely to my client’s thoughts, fears and dreams while helping them to make meaningful connections that strengthen their sense of self. While deep inner work generally takes time, some positive change can be anticipated rapidly.

Self transformation comes from understanding how the body and the mind have been impacted by childhood trauma. The somatic modality I practice, Core Energetics, offers a unique opportunity to unwind childhood conditioning/trauma and discover who we truly are. Anxiety has become an ever-present emotion with the things that have been happening worldwide over the last 5 years. How do we navigate life when our anxiety is at levels where it is hard to access our rational brain? Also, our childhood trauma is often times echoing in the background, through the events that are happening in the present. Why do we tend to repeat patterns?

I believe that the foundation of effective therapy is the therapeutic relationship between therapist and client. Without that, there is no way for trust to be built and no progress to be made. I specialize in treating adults who are struggling with mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, addiction, and those experiencing infertility. I work with individuals and run groups. I am a Certified Group Psychotherapist, facilitating a number of groups. I am licensed in both NY and NJ. I know that change is not easy. DBT is an evidence-based program that has been proven to help teens: handle their emotions so they are less reactive and impulsive, eliminate self-harm and destructive behaviors, and better navigate their relationships (family, school, peers) by developing communication strategies and positive ways of interacting with others. DBT helps increase focus, improving school performance and building higher self-esteem so teens learn to love and accept themselves. Group therapy allows teens to connect and practice skills with peers in a structured safe space, offering a new perspective and validation from others experiencing similar situations. Primary group objective is to decrease behaviors that interfere with quality of life. We work toward decreasing and ultimately, eradicating impulsive, suicidal, and self-injurious behaviors while enhancing one's ability to cope more effectively with difficult feelings. Disordered eating behaviors are primary targets of the work. Restriction, binging, purging, and/or abuse of exercise are closely tracked and skills for changing these behaviors are reinforced so that participants may effectively work toward balanced, healthful eating and self care. The group will cover all four of the DBT modules: core mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

Anxiety Support Groups

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
