For twenty five years I have counseled children and adults through the grief process engendered by death, miscarriage and infertility.
I have been a Clinical Psychologist for 30 years, and I continue to be enriched, challenged and personally deepened by my work. My therapeutic style is to be active, engaged and empathetic. I explore the past, ask questions about the present, and collaborate with my clients to brainstorm solutions for the future as I work to help people find meaning and purpose in their lives. As Clinical Director of the Center for Loss and Renewal, I have an expertise in loss situations, yet I see many couples for relationship enhancement issues and do coaching for business success.

The prolonged grief that comes from watching a loved one battle chronic illness is a unique struggle and often exists without many spaces to talk about it. This group is meant to hold that space and provide a non-judgmental environment where members can feel supported through their grief and in community with similarly situated people.

I believe that everyone can benefit from therapy. Therapy can be one of the most important tools we use to manage stress and improve our confidence and relationships. The value of having a safe space to share your thoughts and feelings can't be measured. My role as therapist is as an empathetic guide and as a supportive and objective presence. I provide feedback which is reflective, constructive and without judgment. I aim to provide you with tools you can utilize in your daily life, and with the understanding to help you remove unconscious roadblocks and reframe unhealthy thinking patterns.

I am trained to work with people experiencing all kinds of emotional and mental challenges with special training in parenting, postpartum mood and anxiety disorders as well as grief and loss.
I listen empathically to help my patients develop self-compassion and awareness so they can develop acceptance and create change. I see my role as listener, supporter, and guide into the internal world. My job is to thoughtfully explore with you, this unknown terrain and come to know the resources, resiliency, and best self that already exists. I also believe that life is not all rainbows and unicorns. There are many up and downs. The question is how we get through them. We must explore all aspects of life to fully engage and fulfill our greatest potentials.

Difficult experiences shine a light on our resilience, making clear how much or how little we have in any given moment. This group will provide a safe and nurturing space to be with those experiences, learn and practice tools and techniques to move through difficult moments and discover that we're already more resilient than we may perceive ourself to be.

Starting SEPT 5! Through this virtual group, you will get a foundational understanding of one modality that can be particularly helpful for ongoing health issues: Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (pronounced “ACT”). Many modalities seek symptom reduction as an outcome of treatment, however with ongoing health issues, symptom reduction may not be a realistic end goal. As such, the ACT approach of pursuing what is important in the presence of symptoms emerges as a more realistic endeavor. Join this 8-week ACT workshop to learn strategies for managing difficult thoughts, feelings & emotions and find ways of committing to you values-based living.

No matter what path we take in life, we will be met with suffering and hardship along the way. This is a natural aspect of the human condition. My goal as a Therapist is to assist you with identifying how your suffering manifests (whether it be due to depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, life change etc.) and the variety of ways in which you can cope with the distressing situations in your life. In my practice, I work to cultivate a warm, non-judgmental space that welcomes you to safely explore the issues you are facing. I specialize in working with clients working through anxiety, OCD, life changes and chronic health struggles.

We are all touched by grief at some point in our lives. Learning how to cope with the death of a loved one doesn’t have to be something that you do alone. If you are suffering from the loss of a partner, sibling, friend, child, or someone who was important in your life, then this virtual grief support group may help you navigate the healing process while being in the presence of others who have had a similar experience. This group meets weekly and provides emotional support for its members, as well as strategies for coping with loss, caring for oneself while grieving, etc.

Whether you have obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) or are experiencing chronic stress, feeling anxious or depressed, together we will identify goals for therapy. I tailor treatment to meet the specific needs of every client—with the aim of helping the client develop new coping skills, enhance self-awareness, foster positive change, and increase overall satisfaction and well-being. Circles will include meditations, sound healing, creative expression and embodied rituals that will help us de-isolate our sorrow, and find the freedom to live forward. With a special focus on mindfulness, I greatly value using creative expression, spiritual rituals and sound therapy as profound tools for transforming the pain of loss and transitions.
I deeply respect your wanting to address something in your life that keeps you from feeling happy and whole. Maybe it's a recent event or loss, or a troubled relationship, or maybe a past pain that continues to hurt. Perhaps you are feeling a lack of purpose, or a lack of connection with who you really are. The role of a pastoral counselor is to be a compassionate listener and guide - someone who can sit with you as you explore a deeper self-understanding, reflect back to you your insights, discuss options and goals, then assist you in designing an effective path of healing and change. I am honored to offer you my support.

Grieving is a process of learning how to live in your changed world and integrating the loss into this confusing and sometimes scary new life.
Everyone suffers many losses in their lifetime. Grief is our reaction to loss based on what we have learned from childhood, what we have experienced as adults, and how we have chosen to respond. We then struggle to determine how to evolve and change. The grieving process does not follow a prescribed path. There are many commonalities to the grieving process, yet the journey is unique to the individual. Loss is typically defined as a death, but may take many forms: a relationship, a job, a pet. I specialize in many types of Grief and Transitions including Anticipatory. Absent, Complicated, Disenfranchised, Chronic, Delayed and Inhibited.

My practice focuses on women's mental health/ fertility / pregnancy / postpartum (incl. new dads & LGBTQ families), grief (more specifically early mother loss, and pregnancy loss), and relationship issues. Throughout our lives, we're constantly relating to one another, and building new experiences from these relationships. Unfortunately, relationships can also often feel unfulfilling, or make us feel neglected. They can bring on feelings of loss and disconnection. Then, life in general starts to feel unfulfilling. This can be changed. Psychotherapy, where the fit between patient-therapist is right, can be an immensely powerful tool.

Grief Support Groups

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
