I work with individuals who are looking to better themselves & maximize their potential. I believe that as social beings, we are made to connect - with ourselves, with our peers, and with the worlds around us. I specialize in bridging the disconnect many of us feel and hope to help you find that sense of connection & purpose that may seem out of reach right now. During our sessions, I strive to help you feel closer to yourself and those around you to help you be the best version of yourself. Whether it's personal struggles, relationship challenges, or the overwhelming noise of daily life, I’m here to support you.

My approach to psychotherapy is mindful, accepting and supportive. Trained in individual, couple, and family therapy, complex trauma, as well as clinical medicine and public health epidemiology, I provide treatment from an individualized integrative perspective, based on what is most beneficial to each person. My cultural and crosscultural perspectives allow me to factor in the cultural impact on human behavior.

People often reach out with a range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, and the challenges of navigating life transitions. Whatever the specific issue, clients often share a common goal: to gain a deeper understanding of the issues they’re struggling with, to challenge and replace patterns of thought and behavior that are not serving them, and to learn helpful coping skills to manage stressors in healthy and productive ways. Ultimately, clients frequently aspire to cultivate a life of fulfillment, authenticity, and peace.

John P. Carnesecchi, LCSW, CEAP is a seasoned clinician that treats people of all ages. A client is usually struggling but feels connected enough with me as their therapist to speak openly and freely about their experience. They can accept feedback with an understanding that we are both on the same team. When we touch on something out of their comfort zone, I hope they recognize they are safe and can stay engaged in the process. Together, we push past the barriers preventing them from feeling better, and they gain a better understanding of themselves to meet their potential.

Life can be difficult. I understand how inner pain can feel both overwhelming and all- encompassing. The good news is that pain does not have to last forever, and it’s never too late to heal. Small changes lead to bigger ones, and getting started is the hardest part. Together, we’ll explore how past experiences may be preventing you from achieving the life you want and deserve. By harnessing your inner strength, I will offer tangible tools to alleviate existing pain and replace old behaviors with new ones.

**CURRENTLY NOT ACCEPTING CLIENTS** Adult DBT Skills is a 90-minute weekly group found to be most helpful for those who have difficulty regulating their emotions, without the use of alcohol, drugs or engaging in maladaptive or self-harming behaviors. The skills are tailored from a combination of mindfulness, navigating relationships, and managing one's own emotions. Participants should be in individual psychotherapy while in the group. The full training cycle is 6 months or 24 sessions. The group is also open at rotating intervals throughout the program, based on availability. Please contact Dr. Gerald Pantoja (gerald@nycpsychdocs.com) for more info.

Therapy can be daunting. Perhaps you feel uncertain about where to take the first step. Perhaps you've been on this journey for awhile, and you are exhausted or lost. Wherever you might be in your life’s journey and no matter how heavy the burdens you may carry, I am dedicated to meeting you where you are. As your therapist, I will support you, with compassion, understanding, and insight, as you take the risky (and courageous) step of sharing your experiences with me.
