You may be feeling overwhelmed by stress and anxiety - whether it’s from external demands or internal struggles. Maybe it's social anxiety, "a life transition," or healing from trauma. Or maybe it's something more general, like you want to feel more "in control" of your emotions…and your life. I can help. Together, we’ll uncover the roots of your challenges, empowering you to move forward - with skill and confidence. I use “treatments that work” (CBT, DBT, mindfulness, etc). But we’ll find what works for YOU. Lastly, I don’t just want you to just “feel better.” I want you to live your best life. I'm looking forward to meeting you!

Anger is taboo yet serves a significant role in the everyday lives of everyone in this country. We are taught its power in childhood and as we grow we learn how to manipulate it to meet our needs. We tend to not like anger, but we respect it. We fear it and what it can do, yet we provoke it. We perceive it as a threat, and then justify when we demonstrate it -denying intent to cause harm. This workshop explores the role of anger in our lives and the service it provides to not just others, but to ourselves as well.

Ten years facilitating anger and stress management groups.
Need to talk to someone unbiased who will challenge, support and not pacify you? If so, I am the clinician for you. My mantra is: "it doesn't matter where your journey begins; only where it ends and what you pass and pick up along the way." For the past fourteen years I have served the "working well" (i.e...individuals like you facing every day struggles) and individuals in the criminal justice system. Both populations faced difficulty with adjustment, depression, anxiety, loss, relationships, anger, substance use, parenting and major mental illness. However, the major difference between them are the resources available to cope.
Stress is so normal we don't always realize when we are experiencing it. As we take on more and more our sleep, appetite, attitude, relationships, and productivity shift. We rarely attribute this to stress until someone else brings it to our attention. What we may not notice, however, is that our blood pressure has risen, our hair has thinned and is falling out and we are sick more than usual. This group explores the role of stress in our lives, the effect it has on our bodies, and what we can do to improve how we manage it.

Through my experience as a therapist in the mental health and substance abuse field, I have come to believe that change occurs through gaining insight into our own thinking processes. When we begin to learn more about our thinking processes, which generally arise from past experiences, we begin to change the way we feel. The therapeutic journey begins by identifying reoccurring themes or what I term "addictions." The process continues by coaching clients to master their triggers and develop counter actions. It is through this process that clients are empowered to handle their life problems with more ease.

Life can sometimes feel like a puzzle, and seeking help is a courageous step. I specialize in working with children, teens, and adults facing ADHD, OCD, trauma, anxiety, depression, and family challenges. By using evidence-based therapies such as CBT and DBT, as well as art and play therapy, I create a safe space for healing and growth. I offer a holistic approach to help you or your child thrive.
This group is designed to address the developmental needs of younger children, 10-13 years, who are struggling with impulse controls within their school and family. Students generally require IEP supports to make effective academic progress. Social skill development is focused upon from both a school-based and familial perspective. Play therapy techniques, including collaborative movie-making activities, board game play, role-playing games, and psychodramatic techniques are used to help the participants develop their social skills, emotional expression skills, and impulse control. We tend to have a lot of fun while learning more effective ways to function in life.

Anger Management Support Groups
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.
How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.
Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.
What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
