Are you feeling stuck or overwhelmed? Do you long for a greater sense of well-being and/or fulfillment in life? When our needs are unmet or injured, it can result in distorted thinking and ineffective behaviors. We may feel unable to move past anxiety, depression, grief, fear, despair, anger, or trauma, and move into self-protection, isolation, or avoidance in order to cope. By creating a nurturing, nonjudgmental environment where it's safe to express feelings and emotions, I believe that we will identify root issues and move beyond coping to restoration. I help individuals, couples, and families work through the places they feel stuck so they can achieve their own version of success. I meet people wherever they are empathically, respectfully, and without judgment. My specialties include Relationship and Family issues; Depression, Anxiety, Trauma, PTSD as well as Substance abuse. My work is informed by Internal Family Systems (IFS) and the latest findings in neuroscience. After 15 years, I also find that a lot of insight and healing happens in the spaces where science, psychology, and spirituality rub up against each other.

In the San Diego Region, there are over 143,000 active duty personnel. Hundreds of their spouses consist of Japanese women whom these active duty members met while they were stationed in Japan and brought to the US. Some studies indicated the divorce rate among members of the U.S. military is almost twice the average national divorce rate. This group was created for these Japanese military wives who struggle in their marriage while living in a foreign environment. Group members get opportunities to address their issues and support to each other in a therepeutic environment.

My primary goal as a therapist is to foster a safe, supportive, accepting and also challenging space that encourages personal growth and healing for each of my clients. To achieve this, I use an integrative treatment approach, grounded in psychodynamic and interpersonal theories, that encourages mindful self-reflection on internal experiences, authentic expression of affect and a benign curiosity about our personal experiences. My experience and training have made me comfortable working with a range of mental health concerns and a diversity of cultural backgrounds.

Empowering Change coaching & counseling services meets you where you are and takes you where you want to go. We focus on the core issues that bring you here today. Some of these core issues are under the surface (shadow) and show up as anger, depression, self-doubt, dis-trust & anxiety. Often these emotional patterns are caused by old wounds that are calling for your attention. Understanding why these responses were formed takes them out of the shadows, freeing you from the power they have over you.
