As a cancer survivor, I walk the talk. During our initial sessions, we will delve deeply into the issues at hand, and collaborate to create a plan for addressing them in a way that helps you get your life back. Most of my patients see a gradual lifting of symptoms within the first month and sustained improvement thereafter. If you have been suffering on your own, I want you to know that there is hope for relief, and that you aren’t alone.

Therapy is not a "one size fits all" approach. I am an integrative psychotherapist with an extensive background in working with mood disorders, dual diagnoses, prosocial behavior management and stress reduction. My approach is based in psychodynamic underpinnings, integrating elements of several schools of therapy to address the emotional, behavioral, psychological, cognitive and spiritual dimensions of my clients. This allows me to design a therapeutic strategy for each client based on their specific areas of concern.

During this challenging time it is normal to be experiencing some anxiety, nervousness or restlessness. I provide evidence-based therapeutic approaches that are holistic and multiculturally sensitive.
Being in community, either in an ongoing group, or in ritual space, is a powerful way to feel less alone in grief, and learn from the wisdom of others. Sometimes we feel totally alone in our struggle only to find that so many others in the circle feel the same way, too. People in our lives often serve as mirrors, reflecting to us the myriad facets of ourselves. Together, we learn skills, guided meditations, movement, and expressive arts activities, using the power of the collective to heal more quickly than doing so alone.

We are living in challenging times. When a heartbreaking loss knocks us down to the ground, or a trauma from the past gets activated from a recent event, it can feel unbearable to cope with all that is already happening in the world. In our work together, we will bring the healing power of awareness to the discomfort in a safe and supportive setting to help you increase your capacity to be with the pain, and move through it. So often we are unaware of the patterns we hold in our bodies and minds that keep us stuck. Together we can shed light on what is happening so you can choose how you want to respond and show up in your life.
This gestalt group welcomes and builds upon a foundation of present moment awareness. Group members are invited to bring all parts of themselves and notice what emerges in the context of community and connection with others. Members are encouraged to: explore and build mindful awareness; notice how you’re supporting yourself and potentially experience community support; deepen contact with self and with others; notice and explore boundaries; sense what emerges when noticing differences in context of other group members; explore growth and change through experiential processes; witness others and build awareness of impact. People across an array of identities and life experiences are welcome.

As a clinical psychologist who treats chronic pain, anxiety disorders, and OCD, I am dedicated to helping adults navigate the complexities of these conditions. If you’re living with chronic pain, panic attacks, phobias, or persistent anxiety, you don’t have to face these challenges alone. Clients often reach out when they are looking for support in changing their actions to move towards their values in life. In our therapy sessions, we’ll focus on understanding your unique experiences and leveraging your strengths to achieve meaningful change.
Gay, bisexual, and queer men face distinct challenges in connecting emotionally with other men. Struggling with societal expectations, it is easy to fall into isolation or unfulfilling relationships. Processing the “here and now” interpersonal dynamics in group therapy, men may find a safe space to redefine their own ways of relating, enabling them to form genuine connections in which they feel celebrated for who they are. This is why I created this online group for gay, bisexual, pansexual, and queer-identified men who want to grow in their connection to themselves and others.

My typical clients struggle with shame and perfectionism, often preventing them from living fulfilling lives. When stuck in shame, people may question if they're “good enough” in multiple areas of their lives, which creates a cycle of shame that is difficult to get out of alone. I specialize in areas of insecure attachment, attachment/family trauma, CPTSD, grief and loss, sex and gender, obsession/rumination, and anxiety. I am trained in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) and am certified in EMDR.
The group is available to any licensed mental health professional seeking a supportive environment of peers to help foster their own continuing development of clinical expertise and personal therapeutic style. It provides a safe, non-judgemental space to examine how to respond most effectively with particularly challenging clients, who can often elicit our own counter-transference and thwart the progress in therapy. Individual supervision is also available in person or via computer. Feel free to inquire.

I'm a "seasoned" psychologist in practice for 40 years. I enjoy working with people from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds and have always preferred having a "general practice" which allows addressing a wide range of personal concerns. While each individual requires a unique approach; the transformative power of therapy is rooted in the trusting relationship that evolves between you & I. It's the alliance between us which helps you become the person you aspire to be. The work is serious but also allows for having a bit of fun while seeking the most gratifying life to foster a sense of fulfilling purpose for yourself.
This is an 8 non-consecutive weeks structured small therapy group focusing on learning new ways to interact with your thoughts so you can live the life you want to be living. You'll have the opportunity to work on goals that have been hindered by overthinking and compulsions, learn about important beliefs that activate your OCD, and transition from unhelpful or problematic-causing strategies to ones that help you move towards your goals with greater ease. Each session is $150. A screening is required that costs $150 to ensure that group therapy is a good fit.

FAQs - About Group Therapy and Support Groups
How can I find a support group in San Francisco County?
Search for nearby support groups by inputting your city, zip code, or the name of the group into the search bar. From there, you can filter to find a group that suits your needs, whether you are looking for support for a teenager, a group that focuses on a specific issue, such as depression, or a particular program type, such as one geared toward developing social skills. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.
How does group therapy work?
Therapy groups are led by one or more therapists and serve to help people process their experiences and learn from others who understand their challenges firsthand. They can be based on a specific issue, such as addiction, grief, physical illnesses, parenting, and caregiving. They can involve a specific type of program or therapy, such as a social skills group or CBT group. They can also be specific to a particular population or community, such as teens or LGBTQ.
Support groups, like Alcoholics Anonymous, also focus on a specific issue, but are typically led by members with lived experiences and are less structured than therapy groups. Most therapy groups will meet for a fixed length of time with a consistent group of members, while many support groups meet for an indefinite period of time with members coming and going.
What are the benefits of group therapy?
Support groups help connect people with shared challenges or physical and mental health conditions. In a group setting, participants can receive support and feedback from peers and can acquire new skills, strategies and perspectives by listening to one another. Discussing your experience with someone who also has a cancer diagnosis, or whose son also struggles with addiction, for example, can help you feel less alone, reduce distress, find empathy and connection, and learn practical or medical information that has helped others. Group therapy can also be a more affordable option than individual therapy and just as effective.
Is group therapy as effective as individual therapy?
Support groups can be deeply valuable for both emotional support and/or treatment outcomes. It’s difficult to make a blanket statement on efficacy due to the many different types of support groups and conditions treated, but group therapy has been found to be just as effective as individual therapy in establishing long-term abstinence for conditions such as substance abuse, addiction and alcohol abuse.
How much does group therapy cost?
Group counseling is typically less expensive than individual counseling, with each session costing on average between $60 to $75. Meanwhile, individual therapy sessions can run anywhere from $100 to $200 and up, even after insurance. It is possible to find low-cost group therapy options and many therapists offer group sessions free of charge.
Does insurance cover group therapy?
As with individual therapy, many insurance companies do offer coverage for group therapy sessions. However, the coverage varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider. Individuals are encouraged to check with their insurance providers to verify coverage.
How long does group therapy last?
The length of a support group session is often one hour but can fall anywhere between 45 minutes and two hours. The amount of time that people remain in a support group varies based on their specific needs and goals and the type of therapy. Some individuals may seek a shorter-term group, such as a bereavement group, that may last between six and 20 weeks. Some may seek a longer-term group that lasts for a year or indefinitely.
What are the limitations of support groups?
Support groups have many benefits, but there are a few limitations as well. Support groups do not constitute formal therapeutic or medical treatment, and are not run by licensed mental health professionals, so some people may opt for group therapy or individual therapy instead. Additionally, support groups can depend on the other participants, so a disruptive individual has the potential to mar the group dynamic, and the anecdotal information shared may sometimes be unhelpful or inaccurate. Because it is a group setting, confidentiality can be more difficult to guard and participants receive less personalized attention than they would in an individual therapy session.
