Support Groups in Los Angeles, CA

Group therapy is a potent therapy both by itself and in conjunction with individual therapy. The group provides members the opportunity to explore and evolve interpersonal patterns with others who are looking to do the same. Members are encouraged to share their thoughts, feelings, and impulses as they emerge so that their internal life can be better understood in real time. Experiences of isolation and loneliness are interrupted as the group process helps clarify and resolve blocks to connection and emotional intimacy. The group is a vitalizing and nurturing experience.

This 8 week group will focus on the following skillsets of DBT: (1) Mindfulness, (2) Emotion Regulation, (3) Distress Tolerance, (4) Interpersonal Effectiveness. These DBT skill groups differ from conventional "process" groups where individuals openly express emotions, thoughts, and viewpoints for discussion. Instead, a DBT Skills group closely resembles an "emotional intelligence" class. While sharing is certainly encouraged and occurs, and members can provide mutual support within their comfort levels, the primary focus of the group lies in acquiring DBT skills through a classroom-style approach.

The process of finding a therapist can often be a daunting first step, and it can be difficult to know who to trust and who can help. A good fit with a therapist includes a feeling of safety and a belief that your therapist has the ability to help you. Clients who find themselves at home in my practice are people who experience chronic depression or anxiety, individuals with a history of family wounding, individuals with relationship or identity issues, couples with difficulty resolving arguments, teens in crisis, and those feeling stuck or in transition.

Life can get complicated and there is no handbook on how to handle things like depression, anxiety, addiction and relationship problems. It is important to know two things: 1. you are not alone, 2. challenges are always opportunities to grow and change your life. You are probably here because it's time to "do something different." Let us help guide you through this journey!

It's important to talk about your loved one, honor your emotions and recognize the various stages of mourning. With loss also comes changes in self-identity and the role a person plays in life. This group is a safe space where you can share your story without judgment, and find comfort and understanding among others who are going through a similar experience. This group will assist you in exploring your thoughts on identity changes and also have a safe space to explore your unresolved feelings.

Our life experiences can lead us to question our identity and purpose in the world we live in. This can lead us to anxiety, depression, and trauma. Do you want to improve how you face challenges, function in your relationships, and face overwhelming feelings? I place heavy importance on addressing trauma. Trauma disintegrates the parts that make up your whole self, which can leave aspects of who you are hidden from your awareness. Left unaddressed, anxiety and depression can worsen, which can rob you of the necessary connection that all human beings need to thrive. I aim to help you process unresolved trauma.

This group will provide a safe space for gay men to heal from trauma. Unfortunately, gay men are more likely to experience trauma than straight men. And, it's often difficult for gay men to find a space to begin to unpack their traumatic experiences. That's what you'll experience in this group: a safe environment to recover from trauma. In fact, many folks find that the healing process is quicker in a group setting, rather than traditional individual therapy. Interested to learn more? Being a gay man in today’s society isn’t easy. Everyone seems to have money, success, good looks and as much sex as they want. If you’re like most clients I work with, you’ve probably spent most of your life feeling shame. Your culture, your community, and maybe even your family, told you you weren’t good enough. By now you have probably built a successful life. But despite the external success and validation, you still don’t feel good enough. Small rejections may trigger you. You frequently compare yourself to others. You lack confidence in your sex life. Or maybe you find yourself doing too many party drugs.

Hi, I'm glad you made it. Asking for and finding support is tough, but this is the first step. Tell me, do you find it difficult to stay motivated throughout the day? Are you constantly ruminating on interactions with others, anxious about whether you said or did the "right" thing? Perhaps you spend most of your time and energy worrying about how others perceive you? Or, maybe you struggle to feel deserving to take up space in a conversation or a room full of people? If you identify as a perfectionist, people-pleaser, over-thinker, or struggle with low self-esteem or self-worth, therapy might help cut through some of that noise.

Therapy with me is a safe space where my clients can press the pause button and reset each week. My clients use our time together to evaluate the direction they are headed and make adjustments necessary to get where they want to be. Although the details of course vary from client to client, I understand from 15+ years working with families in hospitals, schools, and therapy rooms, that this process is only effective when you like your therapist!
