My clients are sensitive to the world around them. They feel emotions deeply and have big internal or external reactions. I work with children (ages 3+), teens, and young adults on their journeys to grow, thrive, and create lasting change. I play an active role in sessions by teaching skills, reframing negative thought patterns, building self-esteem, and focusing on each individual's needs to create a life worth living. I support the unique abilities you already have, to overcome challenges, build resilience, and improve emotional understanding and communication, leading to more positive and productive behaviors and outcomes.

Mental health challenges are due to the aftereffects of traumatic experiences. Trauma can place a strain on your family, work, relationships, and even cause issues with self-worth. I specialize in trauma therapy along with treating personality disorders, depression, anxiety, ADHD, and addiction. All these disorders can look different from person to person, and that is where our therapeutic journey of empowerment and self-exploration begins. Why therapy? Why now? If not now, when? Not a single person that has ever existed understands what it is like to be a human the way that you do. Our unique characteristics, perspectives, and experiences do not have to limit us. Instead, they can become our biggest sources of strength. Do you struggle with any of the following: communication, social interactions, initiating activities, intrusive thoughts, procrastination, following through with tasks, impulse control, sensory overload, anxiety, depressed mood, addiction, or trauma. If so, reach out today for a free consultation with me.

Let's face it, the research was done on little boys back when we were kids (80s & 90s). Now that science is catching up, more women (and female identifying persons) are being diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum (autistic) in their 20s, 30s, and even 40s. If you happen to be one of these women, this group is for you! We will meet biweekly to discuss and hold space for one another in exploring this new part of our identity. This is a safe space for women and female identifying persons diagnosed ASD/AuDHD after the age of 20.

Successful therapy includes finding a good fit: a professional that you can trust, who excels at listening, strives to understand the needs of their clients, and is collaborative, demonstrating years of evidence-based success. Our clinicians possess these skills, collaborating to help define what you want and how to achieve it. They develop strategies to alleviate symptoms and achieve the life you envision, both personally and within your relationships. Everyone deserves the opportunity to overcome trauma, transcend limits, and become their true or preferred selves.

Parenting neurodiverse children (ADHD, Autism, learning differences) brings additional challenges and joys. This workshop will give parents tools to help the child thrive and become his or her best self using the child's strengths and inner resources to create their own identity and sense of self. Additionally, this will help create a supportive community of parents who understand rather than judge.

I work with couples, families, and individuals to help them reduce conflict and increase satisfaction in their relationships and day to day lives. The goal of our work would be to alleviate emotional distress, control anxiety, and feel more in control of one's choices and reactions. In addition to attachment, we would explore values and ideals to create a strength-based concept of oneself. Significant life changes, good or bad, can also add to interpersonal and intrapersonal conflicts and create anxiety. Therapy can help.

What is the most effective treatment for autism?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has come to be considered the standard treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder, and research has confirmed its effectiveness for many children. Therapists trained in ABA techniques work with children (and their parents) on developing social skills, communication and learning abilities, and everyday habits of hygiene and grooming. The clinician will tailor their program to the child’s particular need but the overarching goal will be to help them advance as far as possible toward independence based on their level of symptoms and decrease the need for additional special services. Families should seek a mental health professional specifically trained in ABA, and holding special certification in the technique, who has extensive experience not only with the approach but in using it with children with the same level of symptoms as the child who needs care.

How does ABA work?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) sessions, which typically focus on positive reinforcement, can be intensive, lasting two or more hours several times a week, and continuing for two years or more. Therapists can also be expected to ask parents to take an active role in reinforcing lessons. Research has found that the technique can lead to major improvements that decrease the need for additional special services.

How does treatment for autism work?

Therapy sessions based on Applied Behavior Analysis will likely be frequent, intensive, and highly structured. After a thorough assessment, a therapist will help a child understand and develop skills in a range of areas, including communication, motor skills, social skills, self-care, play, and academic skills, as well as routines of daily living like hygiene. Typically, the therapist will help a child break down the components of a behavior—often referred to as the antecedent (what prompts an action), the behavior, and the consequence(what immediately follows)—and then reward the child at every step, while also asking parents to reinforce the lessons, and the rewards, throughout the day. This core therapy may be supplemented by occupational or speech therapy, and antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticonvulsants may be prescribed to address specific severe symptoms.

How long does therapy for autism take?

Some people with autism spectrum disorder may be engaged in some level of therapy for many years, but research shows that treatment will be most effective if it is begun early and delivered intensively. When therapy begins by age 3, children tend to be better able to grasp and adopt the skills needed to manage everyday life, including attending school and establishing social relationships. This type of early-intervention treatment regimen is highly structured, typically involving 20 to 40 hours of one-on-one therapy per week, along with additional hours of engagement managed by parents, for a period of two years or more, although the duration of treatment is dependent on the child’s level of symptoms and pace of progress.
