Support Groups in 80026

Our couples therapy group is designed to focus on conflict management and effective communication between couples. The group setting allows couples to work alongside other couples who face similar challenges in their relationship. Couples can start to feel less alone in their relationship struggles and explore new ways of connecting. Sessions are based on evidence-based techniques, break down communication barriers, learn your partner’s emotions, and allow partners to turn towards each other instead of away. One-hour program provides time to process with your loved one in a group setting.

Many of the client's that I work with have the same fight over and over again; maybe it's the dishes, maybe it's his friends, maybe you feel like she's not listening to you, maybe you both drink too much. Without professional help it's so easy to get stuck in a rut. At Kenosis Counseling, I believe in the potential of relationships. By resolving our issues through both vulnerability and committed action a relationship can become a place of peace and joy. I want you to have a relationship that others wished they had. I will help you become each others best friends, strongest allies, and emotional sanctuaries.

Everyone needs support from time to time. I work with clients to find answers to questions surrounding relationships, sadness and day to day intentional living. As a Jungian therapist, our work may involve exploration of imagery and pattern and your individual expression. We may utilize dreams, sand and other techniques to access the unconscious, as well as some traditional methods all to address anxiety and depression. I am dedicated to assisting anyone on this journey with the support they need to achieve their individual goals in overall wellness.

Why psychoanalysis? In a world demanding of standards, success, happiness, etc. -or else you're dysfunctional-, psychoanalysis offers a space where adaptation is not the goal, it does not aim at 'making you normal', the main focus is desire. Causing the ability to respond to desire in a singular manner, yours, constitutes the core of the discipline, the cure happens in addition. A life where desire is present is worth living, analysis is a unique approach to get and stay there. I am an Argentinian psychoanalyst trained in Freudian and Lacanian analysis, an ABD PhD Candidate and doctoral researcher for the University of Buenos Aires.

I tend to believe that while each person is dealt a certain set of cards in life, we do have choice in how to play them. Understanding the cards we are dealt can provide great relief. However, understanding alone is often not enough for growth. A good therapist can serve as a mirror; allowing us to see ourselves from different angles and consider our thoughts, feelings and behaviors in a different way than we did in the past. Seeing ourselves in new ways allows us more choice; creating more helpful behaviors, reducing emotional strain and changing difficult relationships.

People seek counseling for so many reasons. Though the Covid-19 crisis has shifted priorities and focus for many of us this past year +, there are still many other issues that bring people to counseling, that still need and deserve attention. We can work on whatever you need now, whatever issues feel most urgent to you - families, partners, work, health, money, etc. Always, we'll focus on strengths, options, and possibilities, and decide together how best to move forward. Using a blend of coaching and counseling, we'll work to create your best life possible, both during this difficult time, and going forward.

Too often we are so busy taking care of others and unable to find time for our own creative expression. Art therapy offers a nonjudgmental experience to explore a variety of art materials and to immerse oneself in the art process vs. the end product. Working in a community of other moms provides a safe and sacred space for expressing our creative selves through mandalas, collage, oil pastels and box embellishment. This group is perfect for: The chance to reconnect with your creative self, gain self awareness. Slow down and be in a creative space with other moms.

You can't shake the feeling that you're settling for less than is possible in your relationship. You've been trying on your own, but the problems in your relationship feel stuck, like they're just not going anywhere. You find yourself and your partner getting upset and reacting in the same old unhelpful ways over and over, but just don't know how to find your way back to authentic, loving intimacy. You're scared there might not be a way back. But you're hopeful that, with professional support, you can reclaim the sexual and emotional intimacy you've been missing, and find a way out of the same old fights and back into being in love.

You feel like you've done everything you can do, but you still feel stuck. Are you desperate for this anxious or depressed feeling to go away? Do you feel stuck by a fear or consumed by a loss that you thought for sure you would be over by now? Regardless of your age, the meaning you make from these questions impacts how you live your life. Therapy can awaken the soul, refine purpose, empower the healing process in relationships, and point to truth in the value of who you are. It's time to thrive and not just survive.

FAQs - About Group Therapy and Support Groups

How can I find a support group in 80026?

Search for nearby support groups by inputting your city, zip code, or the name of the group into the search bar. From there, you can filter to find a group that suits your needs, whether you are looking for support for a teenager, a group that focuses on a specific issue, such as depression, or a particular program type, such as one geared toward developing social skills. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

How does group therapy work?

Therapy groups are led by one or more therapists and serve to help people process their experiences and learn from others who understand their challenges firsthand. They can be based on a specific issue, such as addiction, grief, physical illnesses, parenting, and caregiving. They can involve a specific type of program or therapy, such as a social skills group or CBT group. They can also be specific to a particular population or community, such as teens or LGBTQ.

Support groups, like Alcoholics Anonymous, also focus on a specific issue, but are typically led by members with lived experiences and are less structured than therapy groups. Most therapy groups will meet for a fixed length of time with a consistent group of members, while many support groups meet for an indefinite period of time with members coming and going.

What are the benefits of group therapy?

Support groups help connect people with shared challenges or physical and mental health conditions. In a group setting, participants can receive support and feedback from peers and can acquire new skills, strategies and perspectives by listening to one another. Discussing your experience with someone who also has a cancer diagnosis, or whose son also struggles with addiction, for example, can help you feel less alone, reduce distress, find empathy and connection, and learn practical or medical information that has helped others. Group therapy can also be a more affordable option than individual therapy and just as effective.

Is group therapy as effective as individual therapy?

Support groups can be deeply valuable for both emotional support and/or treatment outcomes. It’s difficult to make a blanket statement on efficacy due to the many different types of support groups and conditions treated, but group therapy has been found to be just as effective as individual therapy in establishing long-term abstinence for conditions such as substance abuse, addiction and alcohol abuse.

How much does group therapy cost?

Group counseling is typically less expensive than individual counseling, with each session costing on average between $60 to $75. Meanwhile, individual therapy sessions can run anywhere from $100 to $200 and up, even after insurance. It is possible to find low-cost group therapy options and many therapists offer group sessions free of charge.

Does insurance cover group therapy?

As with individual therapy, many insurance companies do offer coverage for group therapy sessions. However, the coverage varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider. Individuals are encouraged to check with their insurance providers to verify coverage.

How long does group therapy last?

The length of a support group session is often one hour but can fall anywhere between 45 minutes and two hours. The amount of time that people remain in a support group varies based on their specific needs and goals and the type of therapy. Some individuals may seek a shorter-term group, such as a bereavement group, that may last between six and 20 weeks. Some may seek a longer-term group that lasts for a year or indefinitely.

What are the limitations of support groups?

Support groups have many benefits, but there are a few limitations as well. Support groups do not constitute formal therapeutic or medical treatment, and are not run by licensed mental health professionals, so some people may opt for group therapy or individual therapy instead. Additionally, support groups can depend on the other participants, so a disruptive individual has the potential to mar the group dynamic, and the anecdotal information shared may sometimes be unhelpful or inaccurate. Because it is a group setting, confidentiality can be more difficult to guard and participants receive less personalized attention than they would in an individual therapy session.
