Everyone has a story to tell. Trauma, especially in childhood, can steal a person’s voice and push people to hide their story. Finding a way to own and to express this story can be a powerful step in building resilience from trauma. However, because music can be such a great tool, as well, we have a jam session at the beginning and end of each session.

Anxiety, depression, addiction, neurodivergence (ADHD, Autism, OCD), and traumatic experiences can all take away a person’s voice, understandability, and respect, especially during adolescence and adulthood. There are pieces to their story which a person can either block out, ignore, or fear. The problem comes when these pieces eat away at the person’s emotional, mental, social, spiritual, and/or vocational health. Building resilience involves getting that voice back, feeling understood, and respected in an inclusive environment.
Prime For Life® provides a judgment-free way of understanding how alcohol and drug-related problems develop, what we can do to prevent them, and why sometimes we need help.

Being at war with yourself and your body is exhausting. Maybe it started with your first diet in your teens or maybe it didn't start until later in life dealing with chronic pain or illness, or something else. You are sick of suffering and feeling like your body is an endless problem to be solved. It is hard to feel hopeful. Psychotherapy with me can help you deepen self-trust, self-care and self-acceptance. I have specialized training in trauma-informed approaches, including EMDR and Body Trust® which inform my holistic approach. I can support you to work through your past, honor your present and envision your future.
This Group EMDR protocol, G-TEP, can help to build resiliency, and heal trauma, in those who experience trauma symptoms and triggers. The goal of this group is to reduce the emotional distress, from past or recent events, that surround these triggers and symptoms within a gentle and supportive group setting. It is great for alleviating symptoms of anxiety, depression, and even irritability. Research has shown that the use of G-TEP, and bilateral stimulation (BLS), can decrease the onset of PTSD, depression, anxiety, substance use, relationship and health issues that can follow trauma

My goal as a therapist is to provide a comfortable environment, thoughtful guidance, and a safe space for you to explore the things that you feel are getting in the way. Traumas, childhood experiences, and life in general can contribute to many difficulties that show up in our lives. I will assist you in defining what you hope to improve and work on through the therapy journey.
Break-ups can be hard, some can even be traumatic, but I would be honored and privileged to support you in your recovery journey as you re-invent, re-empower, and renew yourself post-relationship. I think the most important part of the recovery process is remembering the incredible person that you were and how that person is still there, you might just need a hand to pull them out again. Hi y'all, I'm Malanna, rhymes with Madonna! I’m quite the unorthodox therapist, so I’ve been told, because I approach mental health with the same sincerity that we take with our physical health. I have a lot of respect and appreciation for the people who sit in front of me and trust me with their vulnerability. I'm big on cooperation; pairing your self-insights with my expertise. I'll do my best to help you highlight all of your hidden strengths, buried wins, and natural gifts that life can make us lose sight of. I currently offer telehealth services but I can guarantee it’ll be just as good as seeing me in person!

If you are reading this, I bet you are looking for support or connection. After 20 years hiding my queerness, I am now an authentic being who compassionately challenges others to become more truly themselves. I would be honored to be that person for you at this time in life. I mention my own journey ever-so-briefly as it has taught me that life is too d-mn short to not be who we really are. In my practice, I have found that mental health distress is caused more-so by external factors that make us believe we must shrink or contort ourselves into what others want. Whether you're 9 or 99, I would truly be grateful to be real with you.
These groups (meet early morning and early evening) provides men an opportunity to circle up with other men who wish to develop into the best version of themselves. These men work to cultivate emotional and relational intelligences so they are better able to succeed in intimate relationships as well as social and business relationships. Although men may come in with various presenting problems, they find the support and accountability helpful in addressing personal problems rather than succumb to an outdated version of masculinity that tells them to go it alone and not burden others with their problems. They develop a relational and wholehearted masculinity.

I am in the business of helping you become the best version of yourself. Rather than focusing on just your symptoms, I facilitate your personal development and wellness. I explore life narratives, experiences in families, gender roles and cultural systems, but most importantly, I will hear you, see you and provide you a safe and challenging relationship to heal and grow. I consider it a privilege to be a trusted professional with my clients who courageously reveal vulnerabilities while building on their gifts. The path of becoming more conscious--a healthier you--is a path for courageous and bold individuals.

Life can be like an amusement ride with many ups and downs leaving us feeling exhilarated and dizzy with heart palpitations and trying to catch our breath. When the ride of life pushes us pass our limits, asking us to expand or extend our level of tolerance those feelings of pleasure can quickly transition to discomfort, confusion, and anxiety. During this ride of life, we need to enlist support to validate our feelings and acknowledge our feelings of despair. When your feelings are validated, authenticity and liberation emerge. I am committed to taking a seat next to you on this ride of life. Buckling up together.

FAQs - About Group Therapy and Support Groups
How can I find a support group in 48846?
Search for nearby support groups by inputting your city, zip code, or the name of the group into the search bar. From there, you can filter to find a group that suits your needs, whether you are looking for support for a teenager, a group that focuses on a specific issue, such as depression, or a particular program type, such as one geared toward developing social skills. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.
How does group therapy work?
Therapy groups are led by one or more therapists and serve to help people process their experiences and learn from others who understand their challenges firsthand. They can be based on a specific issue, such as addiction, grief, physical illnesses, parenting, and caregiving. They can involve a specific type of program or therapy, such as a social skills group or CBT group. They can also be specific to a particular population or community, such as teens or LGBTQ.
Support groups, like Alcoholics Anonymous, also focus on a specific issue, but are typically led by members with lived experiences and are less structured than therapy groups. Most therapy groups will meet for a fixed length of time with a consistent group of members, while many support groups meet for an indefinite period of time with members coming and going.
What are the benefits of group therapy?
Support groups help connect people with shared challenges or physical and mental health conditions. In a group setting, participants can receive support and feedback from peers and can acquire new skills, strategies and perspectives by listening to one another. Discussing your experience with someone who also has a cancer diagnosis, or whose son also struggles with addiction, for example, can help you feel less alone, reduce distress, find empathy and connection, and learn practical or medical information that has helped others. Group therapy can also be a more affordable option than individual therapy and just as effective.
Is group therapy as effective as individual therapy?
Support groups can be deeply valuable for both emotional support and/or treatment outcomes. It’s difficult to make a blanket statement on efficacy due to the many different types of support groups and conditions treated, but group therapy has been found to be just as effective as individual therapy in establishing long-term abstinence for conditions such as substance abuse, addiction and alcohol abuse.
How much does group therapy cost?
Group counseling is typically less expensive than individual counseling, with each session costing on average between $60 to $75. Meanwhile, individual therapy sessions can run anywhere from $100 to $200 and up, even after insurance. It is possible to find low-cost group therapy options and many therapists offer group sessions free of charge.
Does insurance cover group therapy?
As with individual therapy, many insurance companies do offer coverage for group therapy sessions. However, the coverage varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider. Individuals are encouraged to check with their insurance providers to verify coverage.
How long does group therapy last?
The length of a support group session is often one hour but can fall anywhere between 45 minutes and two hours. The amount of time that people remain in a support group varies based on their specific needs and goals and the type of therapy. Some individuals may seek a shorter-term group, such as a bereavement group, that may last between six and 20 weeks. Some may seek a longer-term group that lasts for a year or indefinitely.
What are the limitations of support groups?
Support groups have many benefits, but there are a few limitations as well. Support groups do not constitute formal therapeutic or medical treatment, and are not run by licensed mental health professionals, so some people may opt for group therapy or individual therapy instead. Additionally, support groups can depend on the other participants, so a disruptive individual has the potential to mar the group dynamic, and the anecdotal information shared may sometimes be unhelpful or inaccurate. Because it is a group setting, confidentiality can be more difficult to guard and participants receive less personalized attention than they would in an individual therapy session.
