As a therapist, my goal is to help others rediscover joy in life. I believe that even those facing trauma or distress can find hope, healing, and freedom. Many high-achieving individuals struggle with anxiety, depression, and stress, often feeling pressured to maintain a facade of "having it all together." Beneath the mask, they may feel lost, drained, and overwhelmed. If you or someone you know is finding it hard to cope due to life’s challenges, therapy can offer a safe space to heal, breathe deeply, and look forward to brighter days ahead.

The G-TEP model was designed specifically for a group setting where details of distressing events are not shared out loud, but members work alongside each other as they are led through a series of prompts and reflections. This group offers a safe space for adults who have experienced a recent traumatic event or who have been struggling with upsetting emotions, memories, and sensations from a stressful incident or situation. Every day we all make choices about what we do or don't do. Each of these choices, no matter how big or small will affect the results that we get in life which therefore influences how fulfilled or unfulfilled we go on to feel. Life coaching helps to identify your core values (what's really important to you) which in turn enables you to make wiser choices and ultimately create a more effective, balanced and fulfilling life. The Life Coaching process examines what is going on in your life right now by unpacking your obstacles and/or challenges and formulating a strategic plan of action to help YOU achieve the things that you want!

The Group Traumatic Episodes Protocol (GTEP) is a therapeutic intervention designed to address trauma-related symptoms and promote healing in a group setting. This 90-minute group uses EMDR strategies to help lower your distress and strengthen your resiliency. The G-TEP model was designed to aid those who have experienced a recent traumatic event or have been struggling with upsetting emotions, memories, and sensations from a stressful incident, situation, or experience. Instead of talking about their traumatic events, participants address upsetting episodes internally and use a process of tapping to help desensitize the overall impact of the disturbances.

Life's unexpected twists and turns can leave us feeling lost, but having someone who offers support without judgment can make all the difference. Creating a safe haven where individuals can freely express their emotions is both an honor and a privilege. If you're facing challenges and feel stuck, know that you don't have to go through it alone. As a former Army soldier and an Air Force spouse, I understand the anxiety and uncertainty that often accompany life's "hurry up and wait" moments. I believe this shouldn't extend to mental health—we deserve proactive support.

Tension, stress and past traumas often build up muscle tension within our bodies. TRE's seven low-impact stretches are designed to induce therapeutic muscle vibration or tremor to relieve that tension. Think of TRE as a deep and relaxing massage you can do for yourself. Massage, yoga, tai chi, and qi gong can all do the same thing but you have to pay for each session, travel, and work with an instructor's schedule. After 3 brief guided sessions people can do TRE as often as they want and wherever they want for the rest of their lives.

I focus on two areas - relationships and trauma/PTSD - with couples, individuals, and families. Couples often struggle with a lack of emotional and physical intimacy, they've lost respect & trust for each other, have little companionship, poor communication, argue about finances, sex, children, etc. Trauma/PTSD is often an underlying cause of relationship problems. Many struggle with mental health and substance use as a result. They feel stressed, damaged, alone, numb, can't sleep/concentrate, have racing thoughts, mood swings, anger. They 've tried meds, therapy, substance rehab with little success and feel stuck. Is this you?

Are you and your family members constantly in conflict? Do you feel at war with members of your own family? If your child's behavior is causing you stress, I can help. If you and your partner are stuck in a negative communication cycle, I can help. Sometimes families do not know what to do with big emotions, whether anger, sadness or even happiness. Learning to deal with those big feelings is a direct benefit of therapy. Therapy will provide the tools in your toolbox to create a harmonious, peaceful home with your family.

Many times in life we find ourselves in painful places we never dreamed we'd be. As an adult woman with three children, ages 1, 7 and 9, I found myself in one of those places. With good counsel, I was able to not only survive, but thrive and, over time was able to heal and see beyond the pain of the past to enjoy the beauty of the present and look forward to the wonder of the future. It's been over 20 years, but I still remember what it felt like to walk into the counselor's office on that first day.

Each week is a different discussion such as healthy coping skills, self-regulation skills, peer conflict resolution, anti-anxiety/stress reducing strategies, how to identify depressive symptoms and be a support for each other. The group's are open, which means anyone can join at any time; however, their is a max number of students in each group and often a waiting list.

FAQs - About Group Therapy and Support Groups

How can I find a support group in 32548?

Search for nearby support groups by inputting your city, zip code, or the name of the group into the search bar. From there, you can filter to find a group that suits your needs, whether you are looking for support for a teenager, a group that focuses on a specific issue, such as depression, or a particular program type, such as one geared toward developing social skills. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

How does group therapy work?

Therapy groups are led by one or more therapists and serve to help people process their experiences and learn from others who understand their challenges firsthand. They can be based on a specific issue, such as addiction, grief, physical illnesses, parenting, and caregiving. They can involve a specific type of program or therapy, such as a social skills group or CBT group. They can also be specific to a particular population or community, such as teens or LGBTQ.

Support groups, like Alcoholics Anonymous, also focus on a specific issue, but are typically led by members with lived experiences and are less structured than therapy groups. Most therapy groups will meet for a fixed length of time with a consistent group of members, while many support groups meet for an indefinite period of time with members coming and going.

What are the benefits of group therapy?

Support groups help connect people with shared challenges or physical and mental health conditions. In a group setting, participants can receive support and feedback from peers and can acquire new skills, strategies and perspectives by listening to one another. Discussing your experience with someone who also has a cancer diagnosis, or whose son also struggles with addiction, for example, can help you feel less alone, reduce distress, find empathy and connection, and learn practical or medical information that has helped others. Group therapy can also be a more affordable option than individual therapy and just as effective.

Is group therapy as effective as individual therapy?

Support groups can be deeply valuable for both emotional support and/or treatment outcomes. It’s difficult to make a blanket statement on efficacy due to the many different types of support groups and conditions treated, but group therapy has been found to be just as effective as individual therapy in establishing long-term abstinence for conditions such as substance abuse, addiction and alcohol abuse.

How much does group therapy cost?

Group counseling is typically less expensive than individual counseling, with each session costing on average between $60 to $75. Meanwhile, individual therapy sessions can run anywhere from $100 to $200 and up, even after insurance. It is possible to find low-cost group therapy options and many therapists offer group sessions free of charge.

Does insurance cover group therapy?

As with individual therapy, many insurance companies do offer coverage for group therapy sessions. However, the coverage varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider. Individuals are encouraged to check with their insurance providers to verify coverage.

How long does group therapy last?

The length of a support group session is often one hour but can fall anywhere between 45 minutes and two hours. The amount of time that people remain in a support group varies based on their specific needs and goals and the type of therapy. Some individuals may seek a shorter-term group, such as a bereavement group, that may last between six and 20 weeks. Some may seek a longer-term group that lasts for a year or indefinitely.

What are the limitations of support groups?

Support groups have many benefits, but there are a few limitations as well. Support groups do not constitute formal therapeutic or medical treatment, and are not run by licensed mental health professionals, so some people may opt for group therapy or individual therapy instead. Additionally, support groups can depend on the other participants, so a disruptive individual has the potential to mar the group dynamic, and the anecdotal information shared may sometimes be unhelpful or inaccurate. Because it is a group setting, confidentiality can be more difficult to guard and participants receive less personalized attention than they would in an individual therapy session.
