I frequently help folks to become their more authentic selves, and to feel and perform their best. I don't pretend to have all the right answers, but I'm very good at asking the right questions, helping you to tap into your own inner wisdom. Through connection, insight, emotional working through, and development of skills, we will partner to tackle your problems or goals together. A primary goal is to equip you to face whatever is hard internally, interpersonally, or otherwise.
The goal of this dynamic group is to help members learn, practice and assimilate new skills that they can use to improve their quality of life and the health of their relationships. This group provides a safe and supportive environment where members experience and practice compassion, curiosity, playfulness, empathy, and acceptance. Therapy is about the relationship between therapist and client. It’s a vulnerable and courageous act to embark on a mental health journey, so comfort and sense of connection is a must. I am someone – in life, in work, in relationship – who has a foundation of empathy, a drive to help others, and a strong appreciation for humor. These core values come directly from my Midwestern upbringing, during which I was taught by example to treat all others with kindness and patience. I have a special soft spot for anyone who struggles with anxiety, especially children and adolescents.

The truth about recovery is that it's a process. Just like life itself. It's forever changing and moving forward. Healing never has to stop. There is always more we can recover and grow from, becoming more whole along the way. Recovery is a form of discovery. Recovering parts of ourselves that had been cut off means they are finally revealed to us, and we discover something new about ourselves. We discover that we are greater than we were before. More aware of our inner strength and resources, we become empowered. I hope that you discover true healing and what recovery can be: Internal peace and serenity can happen.

"Fear lives in the head. And courage lives in the heart. The job is to get from one to the other" - Louis Penny. It is inevitable that we will be wounded during the journey of life. Many of those wounds generally heal on their own. However some wounds cut deeper. They are unable to heal themselves and leave scars causing broken relationships, anxiety, addiction, insecurity, fear, and pain. Facing these wounds can be frightening and overwhelming, especially when facing them alone. Together we find the courage and strength to face and heal these wounds.

“Knowledge is only rumor until it lives in the muscle.” This proverb from the Asaro tribe of Papua New Guinea is the foundation of how we bring what we learn into a lived experience and create lasting change. We can read books, watch videos, and make resolutions but until we truly move forward in a different way, we run the risk of getting stuck in old patterns. My goal is to help uncover the root causes that lead to the use of substances or behaviors that become detrimental to the spirit and values in the individual. Reclaiming these values and rebuilding self-esteem is possible and begins with a decision to seek help.

The clients I work with are those committed to better health. My clients are those seeking health in their relationships, mood, body, mind and spirit. I specialize in those looking to have peak performance, those going through a life transition, and parents looking to be better. When we start therapy, we are getting to know each other. I will take the time to learn all about you, your environment and what challenges you are facing. Then we develop goals together that you want to achieve during therapy. From there I can develop a tailored plan to help you find the life you seek.

Infidelity, Sex addiction, Compulsive Porn use and other compulsive sexual behaviors can wreak havoc on ones own life, and leave a wake of pain, betrayal and trauma in the lives of those who are connected with them. If you are a man or woman who relates to this chaos, we are very aware of the shame, pain and confusion you may be feeling. If you are the partner, wife or family member of this individual, we understand the betrayal, trauma, confusion, anger, despair that may be how you are feeling.
Small groups are available to help children work on their gross motor, fine motor, sensory processing, and self-regulation skills while interacting with other children and building social skills and self confidence. We find that often children are able to achieve higher levels of communication and socialization with adults, but struggle with their peers. Small groups give children the chance to build social skills from the bottom up and while having fun.

FAQs - About Group Therapy and Support Groups
How can I find a support group in 21401?
Search for nearby support groups by inputting your city, zip code, or the name of the group into the search bar. From there, you can filter to find a group that suits your needs, whether you are looking for support for a teenager, a group that focuses on a specific issue, such as depression, or a particular program type, such as one geared toward developing social skills. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.
How does group therapy work?
Therapy groups are led by one or more therapists and serve to help people process their experiences and learn from others who understand their challenges firsthand. They can be based on a specific issue, such as addiction, grief, physical illnesses, parenting, and caregiving. They can involve a specific type of program or therapy, such as a social skills group or CBT group. They can also be specific to a particular population or community, such as teens or LGBTQ.
Support groups, like Alcoholics Anonymous, also focus on a specific issue, but are typically led by members with lived experiences and are less structured than therapy groups. Most therapy groups will meet for a fixed length of time with a consistent group of members, while many support groups meet for an indefinite period of time with members coming and going.
What are the benefits of group therapy?
Support groups help connect people with shared challenges or physical and mental health conditions. In a group setting, participants can receive support and feedback from peers and can acquire new skills, strategies and perspectives by listening to one another. Discussing your experience with someone who also has a cancer diagnosis, or whose son also struggles with addiction, for example, can help you feel less alone, reduce distress, find empathy and connection, and learn practical or medical information that has helped others. Group therapy can also be a more affordable option than individual therapy and just as effective.
Is group therapy as effective as individual therapy?
Support groups can be deeply valuable for both emotional support and/or treatment outcomes. It’s difficult to make a blanket statement on efficacy due to the many different types of support groups and conditions treated, but group therapy has been found to be just as effective as individual therapy in establishing long-term abstinence for conditions such as substance abuse, addiction and alcohol abuse.
How much does group therapy cost?
Group counseling is typically less expensive than individual counseling, with each session costing on average between $60 to $75. Meanwhile, individual therapy sessions can run anywhere from $100 to $200 and up, even after insurance. It is possible to find low-cost group therapy options and many therapists offer group sessions free of charge.
Does insurance cover group therapy?
As with individual therapy, many insurance companies do offer coverage for group therapy sessions. However, the coverage varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider. Individuals are encouraged to check with their insurance providers to verify coverage.
How long does group therapy last?
The length of a support group session is often one hour but can fall anywhere between 45 minutes and two hours. The amount of time that people remain in a support group varies based on their specific needs and goals and the type of therapy. Some individuals may seek a shorter-term group, such as a bereavement group, that may last between six and 20 weeks. Some may seek a longer-term group that lasts for a year or indefinitely.
What are the limitations of support groups?
Support groups have many benefits, but there are a few limitations as well. Support groups do not constitute formal therapeutic or medical treatment, and are not run by licensed mental health professionals, so some people may opt for group therapy or individual therapy instead. Additionally, support groups can depend on the other participants, so a disruptive individual has the potential to mar the group dynamic, and the anecdotal information shared may sometimes be unhelpful or inaccurate. Because it is a group setting, confidentiality can be more difficult to guard and participants receive less personalized attention than they would in an individual therapy session.
