Loss is the universal human condition. At times, all of us move with a sense of "lostness" - be it around a death, a relationship, our sense of safety, hopes for the future. Yet as a culture, we have a hard time being with loss and accompanying grief. I believe that loss and grief deserve attention. You may know exactly why you are seeking therapy, or you may something may just feel off. My role is to help you learn about yourself and your losses. I hold special interest and skill supporting people with experiences of infertility/pregnancy loss, relationship loss, trauma, and death and dying.

This is a group consisting of 3 to 4 couples who are working on resolving issues that are creating conflict in their relationship. It is a supportive and confidential environment in which to give and get feedback from other couples. It is a way to feel less alone as a struggling couple and to find more effective ways to communicate and understand each other.

I have been providing psychotherapy for over 30 years to individuals, couples, and groups.Throughout one's life, feelings such as depression and anxiety can create a sense of loss of control. Life events such as the death of a loved one, divorce, or interpersonal conflict can feel overwhelming. My clients would say that I treat every one according to their particular issues, with respect, and with great support and understanding. I also teach at George Washington University Medical School and I am on the National Council of the Brown School of Social Work at Washington University. I provide supervision, as well, to other psychotherapists.

As our lives evolve, we inevitably experience periods of loss, frustration and conflict that signal the need for better understanding and change. Are you experiencing a major life change or challenge? Job loss, relationship breakups, divorce, death, disappointment, or other crisis? Is your relationship less than you had hoped? Your angry, sad, anxious or lonely feelings may feel overwhelming, but you do not have to go through this alone. We can work together to help you develop an inner awakening and awareness to a more comfortable relationship with yourself, your life, and others. I can walk the journey with you.

Interpersonal group therapy is a powerful way to learn about ourselves and our relationships with others. My groups are usually 6 - 8 people who meet together weekly for 75 minutes with two therapists to work through relational issues that lead to psychological symptoms or dissatisfaction in relationships. People who join an interpersonal therapy group usually want to be able to relate better with others and to feel better about themselves.

In 35 years of practice, my peers have consistently recognized me in Washingtonian's "Best" therapists. I love my job; I get to connect deeply and personally with clients while the share the intense joy and pain of their paths to fuller lives. Therapy is a hero's journey involving courage, openness, and vulnerability as you work through shame, trauma, passivity, and dependencies. You take responsibility for bad habits, limitations and poor decisions. You take better care of yourself and loved ones, achieve goals, manage stressors, and grieve losses while improving relationships, job performance and decision making.

I've been working with stressed out, burned out, overworked, anxious and depressed Washingtonians for over 30 years and call me crazy but I still love the work. It's such a privilege to work with an amazing diversity of smart interesting people! While I have been trained in a variety of different therapeutic modalities I've learned the most from my clients. About half of my caseload is working with couples primarily using the Imago relationship therapy approach. The rest of my client load is working with individual adults and relationship groups for men. Men really flourish in these relationship groups.

(Virtual and in person options for this group.) There is absolutely nothing wrong with your kid. Or with you. Parents of neuro-diverse kids face more stress, more pressure and criticism from others, more self-doubt, more confusion, more isolation, more shame, and generally have more to do than parents of neuro-typical kids. You are not alone meant to do this alone. This group is not intended to teach you how to parent your kid. This group is for you. To process. To feel. To talk about what this is like. I work with clients who are distressed or confused by why they engage in the behaviors they do, whether it's addiction, anger, or relationship difficulties and challenges. I believe this is because my stance is non-judgmental and I genuinely believe that all behavior is rational given past experience or the actual situation, even if it is not helpful in the present. I work to help clients navigate how these behaviors may have arisen, to develop self-compassion, and then to provide support and strategies to do the hard work of adopting new, more helpful behaviors.
