Support Groups in 10016
This process group is open to individuals who are struggling with longstanding interpersonal difficulties and relationship struggles. Through supportive exploration and self-reflection, clients work to identify ways of addressing their personal relationships and decision-making processes while relating to and processing with fellow group members in a safe space.
I take an active and empathetic approach to psychotherapy by establishing mutually agreed upon therapeutic goals with my clients and providing a comfortable space to explore, discuss, and be heard. My therapy style combines psychodynamic, CBT and DBT therapies based on the specific needs of each client. With these approaches, I empower my clients to identify and achieve their goals by drawing on their unique individual strengths and minimizing fear and anxiety. They are able to gain a deeper understanding of who they are and how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors impact their functioning and relationships.

Are you a thirty-something gay man struggling to find deeper intimacy in the city? This long-term, in-person group offers an opportunity to heal from the burdens of being queer in a straight world. We will co-create a path forward through holding compassion for one another and cultivating vulnerability. A few topic offerings will be on living more authentically, processing matters of intersectionality (gender, race, and more), boundary-setting, navigating dating apps, adult attachment, sex positivity, and neurobiology. If you’re looking for a gentle place to land, be understood, and grow, this group is for you.

You may be thinking, “I just don’t feel like myself.” but don’t know where to start to feel better. Did you imagine your life would be at a different place by now? Sometimes as great as family and friends are, they may not truly understand and an outside unbiased perspective is helpful. I know that it can be hard to reach out for help, let alone find a therapist who is right for you. I provide my clients with a warm, supportive, non-judgmental space to help empower you and give you the coping skills needed to live the life you deserve.
DBT groups are not your traditional talk therapy. They are skills based - think of it more as a class. There are four different categories of skills that you will learn - mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance and interpersonal skills. This group will provide you with a toolkit of life skills to help you replace any ineffective behaviors, thoughts patterns or habits.

I have three areas of expertise - substance use, eating disorders and gender affirming care. Substance use includes anything from being curious about your relationship to substances to wanting to stop using completely. Eating issues can range from poor body image to binging/purging/restricting on a daily basis. In regards to gender affirming care - as a trans guy, I have a special place in my heart for clients who are exploring their gender/sexuality. Whether you are just starting to question or worried about coming out or need letters to obtain appropriate medical care - a safe place to process can be very helpful.

I help adoptees, people living with trauma and people suffering with anxiety and panic move towards the life and relationships they want. I work with issues of identity, connection, belonging, and how trauma is held in the body, the way the body keeps the score. My goal is to help you find both symptom relief and deeper change. I also work with my associate Asha Kadir who works with all kinds of mental health issues, and particularly loves working with young adults, international students, immigrants and refugees. In addition, I work with people on their sleep issues with CBT-I.

I offer group therapy (please see below for my groups), ADHD evaluations, and individual therapy for ADHD, anxiety, depression, and burnout. I use a skills-based approach because teaching someone how to eventually be their own therapist can help someone develop the confidence to manage whatever life throws at them - as they say, if you catch someone a fish, they eat for a day; teach them to fish, they eat for a lifetime! I also practice with a values framework so I will be eager to learn about what your values are and what is important to you in your life. I can see people in: NY, NJ, FL, CT, VT, IL - more to come.

Sometimes, Life takes us away from ourselves, away from our own wisdom. The chatter of the past, the chaos of the world, the day-to-day obligations, fears/uncertainties—it’s not surprising that we may get lost and miss that which brings us joy and offers us meaning. When the present is painful/uncomfortable, we are even more likely to shy away to block the hurt. This is a reality we all face. As I have learned in my own journey, it is crucial to develop connectedness, balance, curiosity, make sense of life’s difficulties, mourn losses, celebrate joys, get to know the authentic self, and find the courage to live intentionally.
