I identify as a neurodiverse (ND) autistic psychologist. Like many, I discovered at midlife I’m on the “invisible” end of the spectrum. I now specialize in assisting other ND/autistic adults & their allies as they a) explore identity/diagnosis, b) cope with ongoing life adjustments/ND burnout & c) make informed choices about how/when it is safe to “unmask.” I help clients: identify personal life/career-related challenges, build upon strengths, & make constructive changes to create a ‘right-sized’ life. The Middle School Anger Management Group is designed to prevent younger adolescents from escalating to higher levels of interpersonal conflict within their home, school, and larger community settings. Members are more likely to have social skill challenges and commonly struggle in their school placements. Most members have identified learning challenges that have been exacerbated during the transition to a complex middle school learning environment. Group time is generally focused more on activities and cooperative group interactions.

I work with children, adolescents, and adults who have often had unsuccessful prior treatment experiences. They feel that my knowledge and holistic approach to treatment will provide them with a healthier pathway forward in their life. Although I have a depth of experience to share with my patients I value learning from them on a daily basis. To facilitate change I employ a range of focused DBT and CBT strategies that I also teach to younger clinicians who train with my practice. I have maintained a professional home for 30 years at Harvard Medical School where I serve as a Part-Time Lecturer in the Department of Psychiatry.

I have been a Clinical Social Worker for over 40 years. I bring a lot of passion to my work, and am quite active in the process. I utilize a goal oriented perspective focusing on solutions and growth, while also helping patients/clients develope their own insights and awareness. I like to give feedback to folks and feel that therapy is a process to help create change. My ideal patient is someone who is motivated to work on their problems, is flexible, has a sense of humor, and knows that the therapist does not have all the answers.
This group is for adults who struggle with disorganization, have trouble staying on task, and may suspect they have Attention Deficit Disorder or have been diagnosed. My work is grounded in the belief that change is achieved when the therapeutic relationship cultivates an individual’s awareness of self and facilitates there freedom from emotional pain through the application of the psycho-therapeutic process and compassionate listening. I work with teens and adult individuals who come from a variety of cultures, ethnicity, sexuality and gender expressions.

Our lives are empty without hope, but with it, it has the power to pull us through difficult times and it's often discovered in unexpected places. From time to time we find ourselves placing hope in the wrong people, situations, negative thinking, or in material things. Or we lose hope due to the loss of a loved one, a betrayal or due to the current state of our world. Where is your hope misplaced?
This is a newly forming group for people who turn to nature for healing. We believe that when we gave up our natural homes to live in our "comfortable" homes, we also lost our connection with the Natural healing power of nature. Is that why we return to the fire place, star gazing and hikes along the shore and into the forests? Our program of Guided Wilderness Connections teaches how to re-connect with Nature so you can re-connect with yourself.
After 30 years in private practice, I have retired to do what I most enjoy which is helping our veterans connect with healing and growth experiences they find helpful. Among these is a program of mindfulness meditation in Nature. For more information, go to my website at Guidedwildernessconnections.com.

Accepting new referrals! I could list all my accomplishments from the past 30 years, but that wouldn't give you a true sense of my style or beliefs. What I can share in this brief introduction is my passion for working with people. I strive to empathize, be respectful, and remain non judgemental. We all face worries, stresses, and challenges daily, and we all need someone who listens and understands. While family and friends can provide wonderful support, talking to someone with professional expertise and an outside perspective can be incredibly beneficial.

I am a bilingual clinical social worker/therapist. My passion for working with children and adolescents stems from my years of experience with students in the Newton and Boston school systems. My understanding of the importance for social work has empowered me to continue advocating for and working with marginalized communities, diverse populations, and individuals with learning challenges. My goal as a Multi-Modality Treatment (MMT) clinician is to holistically address the wide range of contributing factors involved in my client’s treatment, including their home, school, and community relationships.

Life is tough, precious, challenging, and full of possibilities. Yet, too often we find ourselves in survival mode just managing the overwhelming moments. Problem is, this pulls us further away from how we want to feel and be in the world. Whether that looks like depression, anxiety, substance use, traumatic reactions, self-harm, family conflict, or something a bit different- I am here to help. In therapy, we can change the way you relate to your suffering, finding relief and more space for the fun stuff. We will work to understand your thoughts, befriend your feelings, and shift behaviors so you can find a calmer state of being.

FAQs - About Group Therapy and Support Groups
How can I find a support group in 01821?
Search for nearby support groups by inputting your city, zip code, or the name of the group into the search bar. From there, you can filter to find a group that suits your needs, whether you are looking for support for a teenager, a group that focuses on a specific issue, such as depression, or a particular program type, such as one geared toward developing social skills. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.
How does group therapy work?
Therapy groups are led by one or more therapists and serve to help people process their experiences and learn from others who understand their challenges firsthand. They can be based on a specific issue, such as addiction, grief, physical illnesses, parenting, and caregiving. They can involve a specific type of program or therapy, such as a social skills group or CBT group. They can also be specific to a particular population or community, such as teens or LGBTQ.
Support groups, like Alcoholics Anonymous, also focus on a specific issue, but are typically led by members with lived experiences and are less structured than therapy groups. Most therapy groups will meet for a fixed length of time with a consistent group of members, while many support groups meet for an indefinite period of time with members coming and going.

Most therapy groups will meet for a fixed length of time with a consistent group of members, while many support groups meet for an indefinite period of time with members coming and going.
What are the benefits of group therapy?
Support groups help connect people with shared challenges or physical and mental health conditions. In a group setting, participants can receive support and feedback from peers and can acquire new skills, strategies and perspectives by listening to one another. Discussing your experience with someone who also has a cancer diagnosis, or whose son also struggles with addiction, for example, can help you feel less alone, reduce distress, find empathy and connection, and learn practical or medical information that has helped others. Group therapy can also be a more affordable option than individual therapy and just as effective.
Is group therapy as effective as individual therapy?
Support groups can be deeply valuable for both emotional support and/or treatment outcomes. It’s difficult to make a blanket statement on efficacy due to the many different types of support groups and conditions treated, but group therapy has been found to be just as effective as individual therapy in establishing long-term abstinence for conditions such as substance abuse, addiction and alcohol abuse.
How much does group therapy cost?
Group counseling is typically less expensive than individual counseling, with each session costing on average between $60 to $75. Meanwhile, individual therapy sessions can run anywhere from $100 to $200 and up, even after insurance. It is possible to find low-cost group therapy options and many therapists offer group sessions free of charge.
Does insurance cover group therapy?
As with individual therapy, many insurance companies do offer coverage for group therapy sessions. However, the coverage varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider. Individuals are encouraged to check with their insurance providers to verify coverage.
How long does group therapy last?
The length of a support group session is often one hour but can fall anywhere between 45 minutes and two hours. The amount of time that people remain in a support group varies based on their specific needs and goals and the type of therapy. Some individuals may seek a shorter-term group, such as a bereavement group, that may last between six and 20 weeks. Some may seek a longer-term group that lasts for a year or indefinitely.
What are the limitations of support groups?
Support groups have many benefits, but there are a few limitations as well. Support groups do not constitute formal therapeutic or medical treatment, and are not run by licensed mental health professionals, so some people may opt for group therapy or individual therapy instead. Additionally, support groups can depend on the other participants, so a disruptive individual has the potential to mar the group dynamic, and the anecdotal information shared may sometimes be unhelpful or inaccurate. Because it is a group setting, confidentiality can be more difficult to guard and participants receive less personalized attention than they would in an individual therapy session.
