TeamBiotic is a collaboration of university researchers, their students, and integrative healthcare practitioners who are focused on the gut-brain connection to better understand and address the microbiome’s influence on mood and cognition.

Contributors:

Nicole Cain, ND, M.A., is a naturopathic physician, with a master's in clinical psychology. Her expertise is in integrative mental health, complex trauma, and mood disorders. Dr. Cain practices in Scottsdale, AZ and is writing a book about anxiety.

Karen Lamb, ND, LPC, is a naturopathic physician and licensed professional counselor with expertise in integrative care for highly sensitive adults feeling overwhelmed, fatigued, anxious, and depressed. Dr. Lamb has a private practice in Wheat Ridge, Colorado.

Keith Sharkey, Ph.D., is a Professor of Physiology & Pharmacology at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, and a researcher focused on understanding neural control of the gastrointestinal tract and the gut-brain axis in health and disease.

Jane Foster, Ph.D., is a Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences at McMaster University and a researcher focused on the role of immune-brain and gut-brain interactions on neurodevelopment, behavior, and brain function.

Laura Sycuro, Ph.D., M.S., is Assistant Professor of Genomics and Bioinformatics at the University of Calgary and a researcher focused on discovering how the microbiome influences mental, sexual, and reproductive health.

Marie-Claire Arrieta, Ph.D., is Assistant Professor of Physiology, Pharmacology, and Pediatrics at the University of Calgary and a researcher focused on the role of the early life microbiome on child immune, metabolic and neurological health.

Sabrina Moerkl, M.D., Ph.D., is a Consultant Psychiatrist, Scientist, and Lecturer at the Medical University of Graz focused on the impact of probiotics and nutrition on psychiatric disorders.

Raylene Reimer, Ph.D., RD, is a Professor of Kinesiology, Biochemistry, and Molecular Biology at the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary and a researcher focused on nutrition and the gut microbiota.
