Laura Deutsch is the author of Writing from the Senses, published by Shambhala in 2014. Her personal essays, features, humor and travel pieces have appeared in the Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, MORE magazine, San Francisco magazine and other publications. Her commentary has aired on public radio and her work has been selected for numerous anthologies, including Best Women's Travel Writing and Leave the Lipstick, Take the Iguana.

Deutsch has taught writing at University of California at Berkeley and San Francisco State, and currently teaches via Skype to students around the world. Her classes include Writing from the Senses, Personal Essay and Memoir, How to Get Into Print, and Writing as a Spiritual Practice. Deutsch also leads writing retreats in Tuscany and the South of France.

Following her graduation from Bryn Mawr College, Deutsch was a guest editor at Mademoiselle magazine. Her studies included a year in Europe and a year in Mexico as a Fulbright Scholar.

Deutsch holds a J.D. degree from the University of Chicago Law School. Prior to specializing in writing and communications, she served as trial counsel, corporate counsel, and law clerk to a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals.
