Decision-Making
Visual Literacy Bridge to Our Decisions
Think about what you may have overlooked as insignificant.

Insight and visual literacy have much in common. Both provide an a-ha moment and a new expanded awareness of what is around us. As educators we use transactional communication. Transactional communication is a form of communication that is ongoing and multifaceted all at the same time. It includes not only the verbal but non-verbal forms of interaction along with the textural and rich diversity of the visual world. It is a constant exchange of information that allows those who are participating and even observing, to become literate in the multi-faceted world. When problems are centered, the focus for decision-making becomes communication that encompasses both the transactional and visual worlds. Our narratives illuminate the situation and enhance understanding while reducing disinformation. The script we construct helps us justify what decisions we need to make and then ground us in the centering process. Therefore, the next time you have a decision you need to make, take a deep breath and consider what is all around you. Think about what you may have overlooked or simply dismissed as insignificant. Embrace your internal and external senses and make the most out of the total experience bridge.
