Disconnected, Unplugged & Zoned Out

ADD or not, we all need to disconnect and take a break

If you are an ADD'er like me, you probably need to find that place to unplug and relax. Sometimes it might be a break from work with something as simple as a walk. Other times, it might be a

bigger decision like a vacation. Having taken the last two weeks off on my annual August vacation, I just may have discovered the answer to truly unplugging and relaxing. I enjoyed a couple weeks away with my kids, the first at a cabin in Whistler BC, a truly beautiful place where many visit from around the world.

My second week was at cabin tucked away in the Cariboo Region of British Columbia on a resort lake called Bridge Lake. Like many places, it was a little slice of heaven, water front property, boating, tubing, wake boarding, diving off the rocks into the water, great food, some drinks and camp fires with the kids roasting marsh mellows. The best part of the vacation however was the fact that there was no Internet or cell phone connection! Now that is truly unplugging. We all have become so tied down and connected.....almost reliant on our Internet. Our Blackberry's, iPhones and smart phones never leave our sides and are never turned off. We have become accustomed to being connected 24-7, 365 days a year. This has created additional stress I our lives and doesn't allow us to really relax. We have created the expectation that we are accountable and must be available and plugged in all the time. What's my point? Well, ADD or not, we all need to disconnect and take a break. At the least, if you have any vacation time planned soon, challenge yourself and see if you can turn it off. You'll really benefit from the experience. I'm back at it today and really feel like I gave myself the break and slow down I needed. I'm focused, relaxed and that is resulting in productivity.
