Zombies get a bad rap, and deservedly so. They do eat human flesh and all. But when it comes to investing we could learn a lot from the Living Dead.
Here are 3 reasons why zombies would make great investors.
1. Zombies Don't Give Up. When zombies get knocked down they get right back up. Successful investors do the same. For example, studies show that the average millionaire experiences approximately three financial catastrophes before they succeed, whereas the average non-millionaire quits after just one failure.
Many people got burned in the 2008 market crash and gave up on investing, only to sit by and see the market enjoy the biggest bull run in history. Ouch.
Whether it’s investing or starting a business when you get knocked down, learn from your mistakes, seek expert advice, and don’t give up.
2. Zombies Don't Lose Their Focus. Focus is critical to financial success. The worst investors are the ones who jump from one fad to another, looking to make a quick buck.
You need a solid, diversified plan of attack and you need to stick to it. You can’t get distracted by the latest market meltdown, hot stock, or investment “opportunity.” Giving in to your fear or excitement and losing focus is a recipe for financial disaster.
3. Zombies Don’t Care What People Think. They aren’t trying to keep up with the Joneses. They aren’t stuck on appearances. They don’t care about new cars, expensive clothes, or looking good. They don’t care about outward displays of pseudo-wealth.
Trying to appear rich, trying to make a quick buck on a hot stock, and/or running with the crowd into or out of financial markets are great ways to blow up your portfolio and your financial life. The financially savvy are more likely to take a slow and steady approach to investing and reinvesting in their businesses instead of blowing their money on fleeting extravagances.
So when it comes to investing, learn from zombies.
DISCLAIMER: That said, do not model your financial life after vampires. That would be a huge mistake (more on that later).
